The Estadio Municipal Verónica Boquete de San Lázaro is a large sports venue in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. It used to be known as the Estadio Multiusos de San Lázaro. This stadium is mostly used for football games. It is the home field for the SD Compostela football team. The stadium can hold 16,666 people. Its football field measures 105 by 68 metres (344 ft × 223 ft).

About the Stadium

This stadium is located in the eastern part of Santiago de Compostela, in an area called San Lázaro. It's a "multipurpose" stadium, which means it can be used for more than just football. However, football matches are its main use.

Stadium Design and Features

The stadium has an oval shape. It has a roof that is a reddish-brown color, like terracotta. On the west side, the roof rises higher. This part includes special seating for important guests and areas for the press. Most of the 16,666 seats are on a single level and are covered by the roof.

A unique feature of this stadium is the 400-meter athletics track that goes around the football field. This is not very common in Spanish stadiums.

History of the Stadium

The stadium first opened its doors on June 24, 1993. To celebrate its opening, a special football tournament was held.

First Match and Goal

Four different football teams played in the opening tournament: Deportivo de La Coruña, CD Tenerife, CA River Plate from Argentina, and São Paulo FC from Brazil. The very first match was between Deportivo and River Plate. A player named Bebeto scored the first goal ever in the stadium during that game.

Renaming the Stadium

On November 8, 2018, the stadium was given a new name. It was renamed to honor Vero Boquete. She is a famous Spanish female football player.
