Etan Cohen (Hebrew: איתן כהן; born March 14, 1974) is an Israeli-American screenwriter and film director. He writes scripts for Hollywood movies. Some of his well-known films include Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Men in Black 3, and The Bad Guys.

Early Life and Education
Etan Cohen was born in Israel into a Jewish family. He grew up in Sharon, Massachusetts, in the United States. He went to the Maimonides School and later to Harvard College. While at Harvard, he wrote for the Harvard Lampoon, which is a humor magazine.
His Work in Movies and TV
Etan Cohen started his career writing for television shows. His first scripts were for Beavis and Butthead in 1995 and 1997. He also worked on other projects with director Mike Judge, including King of the Hill from 2001 to 2005.
In 2006, he wrote the movie Idiocracy. After that, he wrote an episode for the animated series American Dad! called "Failure Is Not a Factory-Installed Option". A small character in American Dad! is even named after him.
Famous Movies He Wrote
In 2008, Etan Cohen helped write the action-comedy film Tropic Thunder. He worked on this script with Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux. That same year, he also helped write Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. This animated movie earned a nomination for an Annie Award for its writing.
Cohen wrote the script for Men in Black 3, which came out in 2012. In 2015, he directed his first movie, Get Hard, which he also helped write.
Directing Films
In 2018, Etan Cohen wrote and directed the movie Holmes & Watson. This film was not very popular and received a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Director. This award is given to films or performances that are considered the worst of the year.
More recently, he worked on The Bad Guys in 2022. He also contributed to the screenplay for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish in 2022.

Etan Cohen is an observant Jew. This means he follows Jewish traditions and laws. For example, he keeps kosher, which is a set of dietary rules. He also does not work on the Jewish Sabbath, which is a day of rest. He and his wife send their children to a Jewish day school.
