Exploring Ettalong Beach's Features
The shops in Ettalong Beach are looked after by the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. This group helped to improve the town centre in 1995. They made the footpaths better and added plants. This work helped to make the village look new again.
The main places to work in Ettalong Beach are the Ettalong Beach Club and the Mantra Resort. There's also the IGA Supermarket and the Ettalong Beach Hotel. Ettalong Beach is also famous for its markets. These markets are at the eastern end of Ocean View Road. The market area also has many restaurants and cafes. You can also find the Cinema Paradiso there, run by a local family.
Getting Around Ettalong Beach
Ettalong Beach has regular bus services. These buses can take you to Woy Woy railway station. You can also get to the Umina Beach shops, Kincumber, and Erina Fair.
There is also a ferry service called the Palm Beach Ferry. It connects Ettalong Beach to the north shore of Sydney. This ferry is great for tourists visiting the town. It also helps people who travel to work in the Northern Beaches.
A "Fast Ferry" was once planned to go from Ettalong to Circular Quay, Sydney. This trip was expected to take only 40 minutes. The train journey from nearby Woy Woy to Sydney takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. However, the company behind this idea went out of business in 2008. So, the Fast Ferry plan was stopped. The local council had approved the ferry service. This means a future company could still start ferry services to Sydney.
Brisbane Water Oyster Festival Fun
The Brisbane Water Oyster Festival happens every year in November. It takes place on The Esplanade and the foreshore. About 20,000 people come to this event each year. The Peninsula Chamber of Commerce organizes it.
The festival shows off the local oyster industry. This industry is one of the oldest in Brisbane Water. The first festival was held in Woy Woy in 2000. But it quickly became too big for that place. So, it moved to Ettalong Beach in 2005. This very popular community festival is run by a special group from the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.
Ettalong Beach Foreshore Upgrade
The Ettalong Beach Foreshore Reserve was improved in early 2014. The local council spent almost $5.4 million on this project. This included $2 million from the government. The improvements were the result of 15 years of hard work by the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. They wanted the foreshore and beach to be better.
The upgraded foreshore now has play areas for children. There are also barbecue spots and places to ride bikes. You'll find nice plants and a cafe or restaurant overlooking the beach. The bike path connects Ettalong Beach with Umina Beach to the south.
