Eugénie Anne Claudine Le Sommer-Dariel (born 18 May 1989) is a French professional footballer. She plays as a forward for Première Ligue club Lyon. She also plays for the France national team. Eugénie is known for being a creative player and can play as an attacking midfielder or a left winger. She has also played as a second striker for her country.
Eugénie Le Sommer is one of the most successful players in women's club football today. She has scored more goals for France than any other player, both men and women. She has won 13 French league titles. She is also one of only three players to win a record eight European Cups with Lyon.

Early Life and Football Start
Eugénie Le Sommer grew up in a big family. She is one of seven children, with five girls and two boys. Her father, Thierry, used to be a policeman. Her mother also played football when she was younger.
Eugénie started playing football at just five years old. She joined the women's team at Trélissac FC. After four years there, she moved to AS Guermeur in the Brittany region of France.
Youth Career and Training
Later, Eugénie played for FC Lorient, one of the biggest clubs in her region. She won many awards with their youth teams. For example, her team won the Coupe Fédérale 16 ans in 2005. They also won the Mozaïc Foot Challenge in 2006. This last competition was held at the famous Clairefontaine academy.
Eugénie was then chosen to train at CNFE Clairefontaine herself. This is a special academy for young female footballers.
Club Football Journey
After her time at Clairefontaine, Eugénie joined D1 Féminine club Stade Briochin. In her first season, she played in all 22 league matches and scored four goals. The next season (2008–09), she scored 10 goals in 22 matches. Because of her great playing, she was nominated for the UNFP Female Player of the Year award.
Eugénie started the 2009–10 season very strongly. She scored ten goals in her first seven league matches. This included three goals in one game (a hat trick) against Toulouse. She ended the season as the league's top scorer. The next season, she won the UNFP Female Player of the Year award.
Joining Lyon and Major Success
On 30 June 2010, Eugénie Le Sommer announced she would join Lyon. Lyon was a very strong team, having won the league four times in a row. She left Stade Briochin after three successful seasons.
With Lyon, Eugénie continued to achieve amazing things. On 30 August 2020, she scored the first goal in Lyon's 3–1 win over Wolfsburg. This was in the final of the 2019–20 UEFA Women's Champions League. This win was Eugénie and Lyon's seventh European Cup title overall. It was also their fifth win in a row!
In 2021, Eugénie Le Sommer went to play for OL Reign in the US on loan for one season. This allowed her to experience football in a different country.
Playing for France
Eugénie Le Sommer has played for France at many levels. She started with the under-17, under-19, and under-20 teams.
Youth International Teams
With the under-19 team, she played in the 2007 and 2008 La Manga Cup tournaments. She also played in the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship in 2007 and 2008. France reached the semi-finals in 2007.
Later, she played for the under-20 team in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Chile. Eugénie was a top scorer for her team, scoring four goals. This included two goals against Argentina. In a match against Nigeria, she scored a goal that helped France win 3–2. Eugénie was recognized as the third-best player in the tournament and won the Bronze Ball award.
Senior National Team Debut
On 12 February 2009, Eugénie made her first appearance for the senior French national team. She came on as a substitute in a 2–0 win against the Republic of Ireland. She quickly became a regular player for the team.
She was chosen to play at UEFA Women's Euro 2009. She played in all four of France's matches. France reached the quarterfinals but lost to the Netherlands in a penalty shootout. Eugénie successfully scored her penalty kick.
Major Tournaments and Records
Eugénie played for France in the 2012 Summer Olympics. She scored one goal in their semi-final match against Japan.
She was also a key striker for France at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. She scored the winning goal against England in France's first match. She also scored two goals in their 3–0 win over South Korea in the quarterfinal.
In the 2016 Summer Olympics, she scored two goals during the group stage. One was against Colombia and another against New Zealand.
On 22 September 2020, Eugénie Le Sommer scored two goals against North Macedonia. This made her the all-time top scorer for France with 82 goals. She broke the previous record held by Marinette Pichon.
In France's second match of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, she scored the first goal against Brazil.
Personal Life
Eugénie Le Sommer married Florian Dariel on 11 August 2020 in Brittany. Florian works for Olympique Lyon. Their wedding happened just two days after Eugénie won the 2019–20 Coupe de France féminine. Some of her current and former teammates, like Ada Hegerberg and Corine Franco, attended the ceremony.
