Eugene Laverty (born June 3, 1986) is a famous motorcycle racer from Northern Ireland. He has two brothers, Michael and John, who are also racers!

In 2022, Eugene raced for the Bonovo BMW team in the World Superbike Championship. During that year, he decided to stop racing professionally at the end of the season. He chose to stay with the same team as a co-owner and a coach for other riders.

In 2021, Eugene rode in some World Superbike races. His team, RC Squadra Corse, later stopped racing. He then filled in for an injured BMW factory rider, Tom Sykes, in other races.

Eugene Laverty's Racing Career

Starting Out in Motorcycle Racing

Eugene Laverty was born in Toomebridge, Northern Ireland. He started his racing journey early. In 2004, he finished second in the British 125cc Championship.

By 2006, he was riding a Red Bull Honda CBR600RR. He was a top competitor for the British Supersport title. He ended up finishing third overall. Two other riders, Cal Crutchlow and Tom Sykes, finished ahead of him. Eugene won four races that year. In 2005, his first year in the series, he finished ninth overall.

Racing in the 250cc World Championship (2007–2008)

In 2007, Eugene moved up to the 250cc Grand Prix World Championship. He rode for the LCR Honda team. He finished 25th overall that season. His best finish was 14th place. He had some bad luck, like an engine problem in Barcelona.

For 2008, many thought he would go back to racing in Britain. But he signed with Blusens Aprilia. He continued to race in the 250cc class. He earned points in races in China and Portugal. At Le Mans, he crashed on a wet corner.

Success in the Supersport World Championship (2008–2010)

Eugene had plans to race in the World Superbike series. But those plans changed. He joined the factory Yamaha team in World Supersport instead. He filled in for an injured rider, Fabien Foret. He was still recovering from a crash himself.

Even with his injury, he fought for second place. He finished on the podium after a tough race. After this, he decided to focus on World Supersport. He wanted a full-time spot for 2009.

In 2009, Eugene joined the Parkalgar Honda World Supersport team. On March 14, 2009, he won his first Supersport World Championship race. It was at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar. He just barely beat Ten Kate Racing's Andrew Pitt. This win was also the first for his Parkalgar Honda team. He went on to win three more races that year. He also finished second four times. He ended the season as the runner-up. Cal Crutchlow won the championship.

Moving to the Superbike World Championship (2011–2014)

In 2011, Eugene Laverty moved to the Superbike World Championship. He rode for the Yamaha World Superbike team. On May 8, 2011, he won his first World Superbike race. This happened at Monza. He was very proud as his national anthem played. Later that day, he won the second race too! His teammate, Marco Melandri, finished second.

For 2012, Eugene rode a factory Aprilia bike. His teammate was Max Biaggi. He continued to race for Aprilia in 2013. He finished second in the championship that year.

In 2014, he rode for Voltcom Crescent Suzuki. He won one race and had two podium finishes.

Racing in the MotoGP World Championship (2015–2016)

For the 2015 season, Eugene Laverty moved to MotoGP. He joined the Aspar Team. He rode a Honda RC213V-RS motorcycle. He finished 22nd in the championship. His best race was 12th place in Catalunya.

Eugene stayed with the Aspar team for the 2016 season. He rode Ducati Desmosedici motorcycles. His teammate was Yonny Hernández. In Argentina, he had his best MotoGP result. He finished in fourth place!

Later Years in World Superbikes

In 2017 and 2018, Eugene raced in World Superbikes again. He rode an Aprilia RSV4. Later, he lost his spot on the Shaun Muir Racing team. Tom Sykes took his place.

For 2019, he signed to race for Team Go Eleven. He rode a Ducati Panigale.

In 2021, Eugene rode for the RC Squadra Corse BMW team. He also filled in for an injured rider, Chaz Davies.

For 2022, Eugene signed with the Bonovo Action BMW team. His teammate was Loris Baz. He announced his retirement from racing at the end of this season. He will become a co-owner and rider coach for the team.
