Early Life and College
Eugene Profit was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 11, 1964. He grew up in Los Angeles, California, with his mother Shirley and four brothers and sisters. He went to Serra High School.
After high school, he went to Yale University. There, he studied economics. He was also a talented athlete, competing in both track and field and football. He still holds Yale's school records for the 60-yard dash and the long jump! In football, he was recognized as an All-American player.
College Football Career
During his second year at Yale in 1983, Eugene played varsity football. He made 40 tackles and recovered one fumble. He also set new Yale records for kick returns and kick return yards in a single season.
In his junior year, Eugene switched from playing offense to playing defense. By his senior year in 1985, he was a starting defensive back in all 10 games. His team even beat their rival Harvard 17-6 in "The Game." He made an interception against Holy Cross and was named honorable mention All-Ivy.
Playing in the NFL
After graduating from Yale, Eugene Profit was signed by the New England Patriots in 1986. He played as a cornerback for three seasons with the Patriots. Later, he joined the Washington Redskins.
His first professional game was in New Orleans in 1986. He played in the last four regular season games that year. In 1987, he played in seven games, making two tackles and blocking a punt.
In 1989, after joining the Washington Redskins, Eugene got a serious hamstring injury. He decided to leave the National Football League to start a new career. By 1990, his football career ended, and his highest NFL salary was $200,000.
Life After Football
After his football career ended due to his injury, Eugene Profit decided to try something new. He first thought about owning a bakery. However, he soon moved into the world of financial services.
In 1994, he started working as a financial consultant at a company called Legg Mason. Just two years later, in 1996, he decided to start his very own company. He founded Profit Investment Management, where he became the President and Chief Executive Officer.
