Eugenio Bersellini (born June 10, 1936 – died September 17, 2017) was an Italian football player and a very successful manager. He was born in Borgo Val di Taro, Italy.
People called him Il sergente di ferro, which means "The iron sergeant." This nickname came from the really tough training sessions he made his players do. He believed that hard work and discipline were the keys to winning.
He is famous for leading the Inter team to win the 1979–80 Serie A title. This is one of Italy's top football leagues. He also guided Sampdoria to win their first ever big trophy, the 1984–85 Coppa Italia.

Playing Career
Eugenio Bersellini started his football journey as a player. He played as a Midfielder, which is a player who helps both attack and defend. He played for several Italian clubs during his career.
- From 1954 to 1955, he played for Fidenza.
- He then moved to Brescia, where he played from 1955 to 1960.
- He also had two periods playing for Monza, from 1960 to 1962 and again from 1963 to 1966.
- Other teams he played for included Pro Patria and Lecce.
Coaching Achievements
After his playing days, Eugenio Bersellini became a football manager. He was known for his strict but effective coaching style. He managed many different teams throughout his career, both in Italy and in Libya.
Winning with Internazionale
One of his biggest successes was with Internazionale, often called Inter. He managed them from 1977 to 1982. During this time, he helped them achieve great things:
- Inter won the Coppa Italia (Italy's main cup competition) twice under him, in the 1977–78 and 1981–82 seasons.
- He also led Inter to win the Serie A league title in the 1979–80 season. This was a huge achievement for the club.
Success with Sampdoria
Bersellini also had a memorable time managing Sampdoria. He coached them from 1984 to 1986.
- In the 1984–85 season, Sampdoria won their first ever major trophy, the Coppa Italia. This was a very special moment for the club and its fans.
Coaching in Libya
Later in his career, Bersellini also coached football teams in Libya.
- He managed Al-Ittihad Tripoli and helped them win the Libyan Premier League title in the 2001–02 season.
Awards and Recognition
Eugenio Bersellini's contributions to football were recognized even after his passing.
- In 2018, he was honored by being included in the Torino F.C. Hall of Fame. This means he is remembered as one of the important figures in the history of Torino Football Club.
