Discover Eurimbula National Park!

This amazing park stretches along the central Queensland coast. It's about 112 kilometers (70 miles) northwest of Bundaberg. Eurimbula National Park was officially created in 1977. It covers an area of 125 square kilometers (48 square miles).

A Glimpse into History

Long ago, in 1770, the first Europeans explored this area. They were Captain James Cook and a famous botanist named Sir Joseph Banks. They were amazed by the beautiful landscapes and diverse plant life they found here.

Amazing Plants and Animals

Eurimbula National Park is a true natural treasure! It's home to many different types of environments. You can find dense mangrove forests along the water. There are also littoral rainforests and coastal vine thickets right by the sea.

Further inland, you'll discover freshwater paperbark swamps and tall eucalypt forests. These varied habitats support an incredible amount of life. Scientists have identified 757 different kinds of plants here.

The park is also a haven for animals. About 430 species of animals live within its boundaries. Sadly, 26 of these species are considered rare or endangered. This means they need extra protection to survive. The park's main goal is to keep these special creatures and plants safe. The land in the park is generally quite flat, with an average height of 40 meters (131 feet) above sea level.

Exploring the Park: Visitor Adventures

Eurimbula National Park offers exciting adventures for visitors! The park is divided into three main sections. Each offers a unique way to experience nature.

Main Section: Eurimbula Creek

The most visited part of the park centers around Eurimbula Creek. You can reach this area from the main road near Agnes Water. It's recommended to use a 4WD (four-wheel drive) vehicle. This is because some roads can be sandy or rough.

Here, you can find great places to camp at Bustard Beach. It's located right near where Eurimbula Creek meets the ocean. If you're up for a short hike, there's an uphill walk to the Ganoonga Noonga lookout. From there, you'll get amazing views of the coast and the park's paperbark swamps.

Northern Section: Lighthouses and Boats

Further north, you'll find another camping spot at Middle Creek. However, this area is more rustic, meaning it doesn't have many facilities. The northernmost part of the park includes Rodds Peninsula and Bustard Head.

Bustard Head is famous for its historic lighthouse. This lighthouse has guided ships for many years! You can often take tours to Bustard Head from the nearby Town of 1770. This town is named after the year Captain Cook first landed there. Rodds Peninsula, however, is usually only reachable by private boat.

Western Section: Rugged Wilderness

The western part of Eurimbula National Park is very wild and rugged. It's extremely difficult to access. This helps keep it a pristine wilderness for nature to thrive undisturbed.
