The European School of Strasbourg, also known as EES, is a special public school in Strasbourg, France. It opened in 2008. This school teaches students from different countries and helps them learn many languages. It offers a unique education that leads to the European Baccalaureate, which is a special diploma for high school students.

A Look at EES History

The European School of Strasbourg officially opened on September 4, 2008. Important people like the French Minister of Education and the Mayor of Strasbourg attended the opening ceremony.

Where the School Started

When it first opened, the school shared a campus with another local French school called Collège Vauban. In 2015, the European School of Strasbourg moved to its own new campus. This new campus is in the Robertsau area of Strasbourg. It is close to many important European offices and organizations.

What Makes EES Special

The European School of Strasbourg is an Accredited European School. This means it is officially recognized by the Board of Governors of the European Schools. It received this special status in November 2009. In May 2013, it was allowed to offer the European Baccalaureate program. This is a special diploma that students can earn at the end of their secondary education.

How EES is Funded

EES is a public school under French law. It has an agreement with the European Union. This agreement means the school gives priority to children of people who work for the EU. In return, the school receives money based on how many children of EU staff are enrolled there.

Learning Many Languages

Students at the European School of Strasbourg choose to study in one of three main language sections: English, French, or German. Most of their classes are taught in the language of their chosen section.

Choosing More Languages

Students also pick a second language from English, French, or German. This second language becomes the language used to teach subjects like History, Geography, and Ethics starting from the third year of secondary school. When students enter secondary school, they are also expected to learn a third language.

A Diverse Community

In 2019, students at the school came from 48 different countries. The teachers also came from many different places, representing 13 different nationalities. This makes the school a truly multicultural place to learn!
