Early Life

Eva Ayllón grew up in Lima, Peru, with her grandmother. Her grandmother, also named Eva, taught her to sing when she was only three years old. This is why she chose "Eva" as her stage name.

As a child and teenager, Eva sang in school contests. She also performed on television and radio shows. In the early 1970s, she joined several música criolla music groups. These groups were called "peñas criollas". From 1973 to 1975, Eva was the lead singer for a popular group called Los Kipus. After that, she decided to start her own solo singing career.

Music Career

In 2004, Eva Ayllón released her first album in the US. It was called Eva! Leyenda Peruana. To help share Afro-Peruvian culture, she moved from Lima to New Jersey that same year. Her album Leyenda Peruana became very popular. In Germany, it won the Critic's Choice Award for Best Traditional Recording.

In 2007, Eva Ayllón was a judge at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival. This is a very big music festival in Latin America. Later that year, she released a live concert DVD called Live from Hollywood.
