Eva Ayllón's Early Life

Eva Ayllón grew up in Lima, Peru, with her grandmother. Her grandmother, also named Eva, taught her to sing when she was only three years old. This is why she chose "Eva" as her stage name.

As a child and teenager, Eva sang in school contests. She also performed on TV and radio shows. In the early 1970s, she joined many música criolla music groups. These groups were often called "peñas criollas".

She was the lead singer for a popular trio called Los Kipus from 1973 to 1975. After that, she decided to start her own solo singing career.

In 1979, Eva Ayllón began to travel the world to perform. She sang in Europe, the United States, Canada, and Japan. Since then, her music has been loved by audiences everywhere. She often performs at big international music events.

In 1989, Eva joined a special group called Los Hijos del Sol. This was a supergroup of Peruvian music stars. A producer named Ricardo Ghibellini created it to share Peruvian music with more people.

Her first album released in the US was Eva! Leyenda Peruana in 2004. To help spread awareness of Afro-Peruvian culture, Eva moved from Lima to New Jersey that same year. Leyenda Peruana became very popular. In Germany, it won the Critic's Choice Award for Best Traditional Recording.

In 2007, Eva Ayllón was a judge at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival. This is one of Latin America's biggest music festivals. That same year, she released a live concert DVD called Live from Hollywood.
