Eva Henrietta Hamilton (1876–1960) was an Irish artist. She was known for painting portraits, landscapes, and using watercolors.

About Eva's Life

Eva Henrietta Hamilton was born in Dunboyne, a place in County Meath, Ireland. Her father was Charles Robert Hamilton. She had two younger sisters, Amy and Letitia Marion. Eva was also related to other artists. Her cousin, Rose Barton, was a watercolor painter. Eva's great-grandmother, Marianne-Caroline Hamilton, was also an artist.

Eva and her sister Letitia both loved to paint. They often showed their artwork together and traveled to different places. Eva was especially good at painting portraits, which are pictures of people. She loved painting children. Later, when she moved to Castleknock, she started painting more landscapes. These are pictures of nature and outdoor scenes.

Her Art Education

Eva went to school at Alexandra College in Dublin. When she was 22, she started showing her paintings with the Water Colour Society of Ireland. This was a big step for her as an artist.

She learned a lot from famous art teachers. Eva studied under Sir William Orpen at the Metropolitan School of Art. She also learned from Henry Tonks at the Slade School of Fine Art. These schools helped her become a skilled painter.

Showing Her Art

Eva showed her artwork in many important exhibitions. In 1904, she displayed two portraits of her sisters at the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA). This is a very important art institution in Ireland.

From 1904 to 1945, Eva showed about 120 paintings at the Royal Hibernian Academy. She also exhibited her work at the Irish International Exhibition in 1907. Her paintings were also shown in big cities like London, Paris, and Philadelphia.

Eva painted many interesting people, including Lady Isabella Augusta Gregory. In 1997, the National Gallery bought one of her oil paintings. It was called Rose Dorothy Brooke. You can also find one of her artworks at the Model Arts Centre in Sligo.
