Evan S. Prodromou, born on October 14, 1968, is a talented software developer. He is also a big supporter of open source software. This means he believes in making computer code available for everyone to use, change, and share freely.
One of his most important contributions is helping create ActivityPub. This is a special rulebook, or "standard," for how different social media websites can talk to each other. It's used by platforms like Mastodon, which lets people connect even if they are on different websites.
Evan also helped start other cool projects. These include Wikitravel, a travel guide written by many people, and Identi.ca, which was an early type of social media site. He also worked on GNU social, another social media platform, and Fuzzy.ai, which uses artificial intelligence to help developers.

About Evan Prodromou
Early Life and Education
Evan Prodromou was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the United States. He grew up in different places, including Texas and California. As an adult, he has lived in cities around the world, like Amsterdam, San Francisco, and Lisbon. Today, he lives in Montreal, Canada.
Evan went to the University of California, Berkeley and finished his studies in 1990. He studied both Physics and English. After college, he worked for big companies like Microsoft. He also worked for various companies that built websites in the late 1990s.
Building New Platforms
In 2003, Evan started Wikitravel. This was a new idea: a travel guide that anyone could help write and update. It became very popular.
A few years later, in 2007, he started a company called Control Yourself. This company created the software for Identi.ca. Identi.ca was a "microblogging" service, which is like a social media site where people share short updates. Over time, his company changed its name a few times, first to Laconica, then StatusNet, and finally to GNU social in 2012.
In December 2012, Evan started a new company called E14N.com. His goal was to create an even newer social media platform called Pump.io. This platform was designed to be a follow-up to his earlier work with StatusNet.
Supporting Open Ideas
Evan Prodromou is a strong supporter of Free and Open Source Software. This means he believes that software should be free for everyone to use, study, change, and share. He also supports the Free culture movement. This idea suggests that creative works, like books or music, should be shared freely so more people can enjoy and build upon them.
Evan often speaks at computer conferences, sharing his ideas with other developers. He also leads a group at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This group works on making social media sites connect better with each other.
Evan is the son of Stav Prodromou. He is married to Michele Ann Jenkins, who also helped create Wikitravel. They have two children together.
