Early Life and Family
Evangeline Dickson was born in Sheffield, England. Her family had strong ties to The Salvation Army. This is a worldwide Christian organization that helps people in need. Her great-grandfather was General William Booth, who founded the Salvation Army. Her great-aunt was Evangeline Booth, who led the Salvation Army in the United States.
Becoming an Artist
After attending boarding school in Devon, Evangeline worked in different jobs. She was a nurse and also a teacher for some time. In 1960, she and her husband, who was a surgeon, moved to a village called Westerfield in Suffolk.
It was in Suffolk that Evangeline truly began her journey as an artist. She studied with two local artists, Anna Airy and Violet Garrod. Learning from them helped her develop her own unique style. Soon, she became a very productive artist herself.
Her Artistic Style and Works
Evangeline Dickson loved to paint many different subjects. She often created stunning landscapes, showing nature's beauty. She also painted lovely flower pictures. She used various art materials, including soft pastels, watercolors, and mixed media. Mixed media means she combined different materials in one artwork.
One of her special exhibitions was in 1992, called Ancient Places. This show featured paintings of very old and famous monuments. These included Stonehenge, Avebury, and the Uffington White Horse. These are all ancient sites in England with a lot of history.
