Everett Kinstler's Art Journey

Everett Kinstler was born in 1926 in New York City. He started his art career when he was just 16 years old! He drew pictures for comic books, covers for paperback books, and illustrations for other books and magazines. He learned a lot about art at the Art Students League of New York. He even taught art there for a few years. He also studied at the National Academy of Design.

Kinstler was inspired by other great artists like Alex Raymond and Milton Caniff.

He drew hundreds of pictures for "pulp" magazines. These were inexpensive magazines printed on cheap paper. They often featured exciting stories like westerns, romances, mysteries, and war adventures. His black-and-white drawings appeared in many of these magazines, including those published by Popular Publications.

In the world of comic books, Everett Kinstler was especially known for his western and romance comics. He worked for many different publishers, such as Avon Periodicals, Dell Publishing, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics. Some of the comic titles he worked on included Realistic Romances, Witchcraft, and White Princess of the Jungle.

Starting in the 1960s, Kinstler began focusing on painting portraits. He painted over 1,200 portraits of important people. These included leaders in business, entertainment, and government. He even painted official portraits of eight U.S. Presidents, including Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan. Many people consider him one of America's most important portrait artists. A special university scholarship is given each year in his name.
