Everton Kempes dos Santos Gonçalves (born September 3, 1982, in Carpina, Pernambuco) was a talented Brazilian football player. He was known for playing as a forward, which means he was one of the main players who tried to score goals for his team. Kempes started his professional football journey in 2004 with the Paraná team. He spent most of his career playing for different clubs in Brazil. Fun fact: he was named after a famous Argentinian footballer, Mario Kempes!
A Sad Day
On November 28, 2016, a very sad event happened. Kempes, along with most of his team, Chapecoense, and other people, passed away in a plane crash. The plane, LaMia Airlines Flight 2933, crashed near La Unión, Antioquia. The team was traveling to play in the final of the South American Cup against Atlético Nacional in Medellín. It was a very difficult time for the football world.
His Football Journey
Kempes had a long and exciting career playing for many different football clubs. He started playing professionally in 2004 with Paraná Clube. Over the years, he played for teams like Vitória-ES, Sertãozinho, and 15 de Novembro.
He also played for Ceará and Criciúma. One of the teams he played for the longest was Portuguesa, where he spent several seasons.
Kempes even played football in Japan! He joined Cerezo Osaka in 2012 and later played for JEF United Chiba from 2013 to 2014. He was a great goal scorer for these teams.
After returning to Brazil, he played for Joinville in 2015. His last team was Chapecoense, where he was a key player in 2016. He scored many important goals for them, helping the team reach the final of the South American Cup.
