Evian is a famous French brand of mineral water. This water comes from natural springs near Évian-les-Bains, a town on the southern shore of Lake Geneva in France.

The company that owns Evian is called Danone. It is a large French company that sells many different products around the world. Besides bottled water, Danone also uses the Evian name for some organic skin care products. There is even a fancy resort in Évian-les-Bains named after the brand.

Evian's Story

Evian started as a public company in 1859. It was first known as the "Cachat Mineral Water Company." Just one year later, in 1860, the area where Evian's springs are located, called Savoy, became part of France. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Turin.

In 1878, the French government officially allowed the bottling of Cachat water again. In 1908, Evian water began to be sold in glass bottles. These bottles were made by a glass factory that is now part of a company called Owens-Illinois. The first plastic bottle for Evian water was introduced in 1969.

The next year, in 1970, a company called the BSN Group bought Evian. This group later became known as the Danone Group. Evian water first arrived in stores in the United States in 1978. In 1995, Evian started using new, easier-to-crush plastic bottles.

Where Evian Water Comes From

Evian water comes from the beautiful French Alps. The Evian production site in the French Alps is very special. In 2015, it was the largest food and drink factory in France that produced no extra carbon. This means it was very good for the environment.

How Evian is Marketed

Evian often tries to show that famous people in Hollywood enjoy their water. The brand also works with well-known fashion designers. These designers create special, limited-edition bottles.

In 2009, Evian launched a very popular advertisement called "Evian Roller Babies." This ad showed babies doing amazing roller skating tricks. It won an award for its great visual effects.

Some famous people who help promote Evian include singer Dua Lipa and tennis player Emma Raducanu. In 2023, Evian even worked with the fashion house Balmain to create a special fashion collection.

In 2008, Evian started the Evian Water Protection Institute. This group works on projects to protect water and wetlands around the world. They have worked in places like Thailand, Argentina, and Nepal. Evian has also tried to use less energy and water. They do this by using recycled plastic in their most popular bottle sizes. The company has also teamed up with Recyclebank to encourage people to recycle more.

In 2018, Evian announced a big goal: they wanted all their plastic bottles to be made from 100% recycled plastic by 2025.

By April 2020, Evian said that it had become "carbon neutral." This means they claimed to balance out the carbon they put into the air. However, in October 2022, a lawsuit was filed. This lawsuit said that Evian's claim of being "carbon neutral" was misleading to customers. In January 2024, a judge allowed the lawsuit to continue. The judge said that "carbon neutral" can be a confusing term for people. Lawyers for Danone argued that customers shouldn't expect the product to magically arrive from France without any carbon being released.
