Evika Siliņa, born on August 3, 1975, is a lawyer and politician from Latvia. She served as the Prime Minister of Latvia from 2023 to May 2026. Before becoming Prime Minister, she was the Minister of Welfare from 2022 to 2023. She belongs to the Unity political party. Evika Siliņa was the second woman to lead the government of Latvia. She resigned on May 14, 2026, after changes in her government. She then served as a caretaker Prime Minister until Andris Kulbergs was appointed as the new Prime Minister.

Evika Siliņa's Early Life and Education
Evika Siliņa was born in Riga, Latvia, on August 3, 1975. She went to the University of Latvia from 1993 to 1997. There, she earned a bachelor's degree in law. She also studied at the Riga Graduate School of Law. She earned a master's degree in social sciences, focusing on international and European law. From 2003 to 2012, Siliņa worked as a lawyer. She helped businesses with legal matters both in Latvia and internationally. Her work included advising companies in areas like telecommunications and technology.
Evika Siliņa's Political Journey
Evika Siliņa began her political career in 2011. She ran for election to the Latvian parliament, called the Saeima, but was not elected at that time. From 2011 to 2012, she worked as a legal adviser for the Minister of Interior. From January 2013 to January 2019, Siliņa was the Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Interior. In this role, she was known for being open with journalists. She also worked to improve public safety in Latvia. She represented Latvia in important international groups like the United Nations and INTERPOL. In January 2019, she became the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Krišjānis Kariņš. In the 2022 Latvian parliamentary election, Evika Siliņa was elected to the 14th Saeima as a member of the New Unity party alliance. On December 6, 2022, she was appointed as the Minister of Welfare. Her main goal in this role was to help increase the minimum income for people in Latvia. She also worked on committees related to European Union funds.
Becoming Prime Minister
In August 2023, after the previous Prime Minister resigned, Evika Siliņa was chosen by her party, New Unity, as a candidate for Prime Minister. President Edgars Rinkēvičs then asked her to form a new government. She worked to create a new government with other political parties. On September 15, 2023, her government was approved by the Saeima with 53 votes. In her speech, she talked about making Latvia a more fair and progressive country for everyone. Her government also focused on strengthening Latvia's defense. Evika Siliņa was the second woman in history to become the Prime Minister of Latvia.
Resignation as Prime Minister
On May 14, 2026, Evika Siliņa announced her resignation as Prime Minister. This happened after one of the parties in her government, The Progressives, decided to no longer support her government. She then served as a caretaker Prime Minister until a new leader was appointed.
Evika Siliņa's Personal Life
Evika Siliņa is married to Aigars Siliņš. They have three children together. Besides her native language, Latvian, she also speaks Russian and English very well.
