Evin Earl Lewis (born 27 December 1991) is a talented Trinidadian cricket player. He used to play for the West Indies as a left-handed opening batsman. Evin is known for his powerful hitting in shorter cricket games.
He is one of only three batsmen to score two centuries (100 runs or more) in T20 International matches. He also holds records for the highest score by a West Indian in T20 Internationals (125 not out). Evin was a key member of the West Indies team that won the 2016 T20 World Cup.
He has also played for many different cricket teams around the world. These include the Comilla Victorians (who won the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League), and the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (who won the 2021 Caribbean Premier League). He has also played for teams like Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

Early Cricket Days
Evin Lewis was born in Rio Claro, Trinidad. He started playing cricket at a young age. He even represented the West Indies Under-19 team. This was at the 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in New Zealand.
Before that, he played for his home team, Trinidad and Tobago. He competed in their local limited-overs tournament in 2009–10.
Playing for Teams Around the World
Evin Lewis made his first-class cricket debut for Trinidad and Tobago in March 2012. This was in a longer format of the game. Later that year, he played for his team in the 2012 Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa.
In the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 in India, Evin was a top scorer. He made 211 runs, showing his skill with the bat. He scored 70 runs quickly against the Titans team. He also made 62 runs in a semi-final match.
For the 2014 Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Evin played for the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. He was their top run-scorer that season. He then joined the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for the 2015 CPL. He was one of their best batsmen.
Later in 2015, Evin played for the Barisal Bulls in the Bangladesh Premier League. He scored an amazing 101 runs not out in one match. This was the only century scored in that tournament. He later played for the Dhaka Dynamites and scored another century in 2016.
In the 2017 Caribbean Premier League, he played alongside his mentor, Chris Gayle. They opened the batting together for the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. In 2018, he was chosen to play for the Vancouver Knights. This was for the first Global T20 Canada tournament.
Evin also helped the Comilla Victorians win the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League title. He later joined the Rajasthan Royals for the 2021 Indian Premier League. In the 2021 CPL, he scored another century. This helped the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots reach the semifinals. The Patriots, with Evin, went on to win their first CPL title. They beat the St Lucia Kings in the final match.
In 2022, the Lucknow Super Giants bought him for the 2022 Indian Premier League. He played a very fast innings of 55 runs from just 23 balls. This helped his team win their first-ever IPL match against the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings. In July 2022, he also played for the Jaffna Kings in the 2022 Lanka Premier League.
Playing for West Indies
T20 International Success
In March 2016, Evin Lewis joined the West Indies squad. This was for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournament. He made his first Twenty20 International (T20I) appearance on March 27, 2016. This match was against Afghanistan.
On August 27, 2016, in only his second T20I match, Evin scored his first T20I century. This was against India in Florida. He reached 100 runs in just 48 balls. This was the second fastest T20I century by a West Indian player. During his innings, he hit five sixes in a single over! The West Indies won that exciting game by just one run. Evin was named the man of the match for his amazing performance.
He scored his second T20I century on July 9, 2017, against India. He scored 125 runs not out. This was the highest score ever in a T20I chase. He became only the third batsman to score two T20I centuries. His score is also the highest T20I score by any West Indian batsman.
One Day International Highlights
Evin made his One Day International (ODI) debut for the West Indies on October 5, 2016. This match was against Pakistan. In November 2016, he scored his first ODI century. He made 148 runs against Sri Lanka. Even though he played brilliantly, his team narrowly lost that game.
On September 27, 2017, Evin scored an incredible 176 runs not out. This was in an ODI match against England. He had to leave the game due to injury, but his score was the highest ever by a batsman who retired hurt in international cricket. It was also the fourth highest score by a West Indian in ODIs. Evin was still named the man of the match.
Recognition and World Cups
In February 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Evin Lewis as one of the top ten players to watch. This was before the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament. In June 2018, he was named the T20 International Cricketer of the Year. This award came from Cricket West Indies.
In April 2019, he was selected for the West Indies squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In June 2021, he reached a milestone. He scored his 1,000th run in T20I cricket during a series against South Africa. In September 2021, Evin was also part of the West Indies squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
