Peshawar Zalmi is a Pakistani Twenty20 cricket team. They play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The team represents Peshawar, the capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The name "Zalmi" means "Peshawar's youth" in the Pashto language.
Javed Afridi owns the team. Peshawar Zalmi was created in 2015. This happened when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the first ever PSL. Currently, Babar Azam is the team captain. Daren Sammy is the head coach.
Kamran Akmal has scored the most runs for the team. Wahab Riaz has taken the most wickets.

Team History in the PSL
On December 3, 2015, the PCB announced the owners of five city-based teams. The Peshawar team was sold to Javed Afridi. He bought it for US$16 million for ten years.
2016 Season
Peshawar Zalmi started their first season well. They won their first two matches. They finished first in the group stage. This meant they qualified for the playoffs. In the first playoff match, they lost to Quetta Gladiators by just one run. They then lost their second playoff match to Islamabad United. This meant they were out of the tournament.
2017 Season: Champions!
Peshawar Zalmi made some changes to their team. They brought in new players like Shakib Al Hasan and Eoin Morgan. In their first game, they lost to Islamabad United. But they quickly bounced back. They won against Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars.
The team faced some tough matches in Sharjah. Their game against Quetta Gladiators was stopped because of rain. They lost close games to Islamabad United and Karachi Kings.
When the tournament moved back to Dubai, Zalmi found their winning form. They beat Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. This helped them secure a spot in the playoffs.
In the first playoff match, they again faced Quetta Gladiators. It was a very close game, but Zalmi lost by one run. However, because they finished high in the group stage, they got another chance. They played against Karachi Kings in the second playoff. Kamran Akmal scored an amazing 104 runs. Zalmi won by 24 runs and reached the final!
In the final, Peshawar Zalmi played against Quetta Gladiators. Zalmi batted first and scored 148 runs. Mohammad Asghar took 3 wickets. Darren Sammy scored 33 runs quickly at the end. Zalmi won the final by 58 runs. They became the champions of PSL 2017!
2018 Season: Runners-Up
As defending champions, Zalmi lost their first game to Multan Sultans. But they won their next match against Islamabad United. They had a close loss to Karachi Kings.
In Sharjah, they won a thrilling game against Quetta Gladiators. Darren Sammy, even though he was injured, hit 16 runs off 4 balls to win the match. They also beat Lahore Qalandars by 10 wickets. This was the first time a team won by 10 wickets in PSL history.
In the final, Peshawar Zalmi played against Islamabad United. Zalmi batted first and scored 148 runs. Islamabad United chased the target and won by three wickets. Peshawar Zalmi finished as runners-up.
2019 Season: Runners-Up Again
Peshawar Zalmi finished first in the group stage. They won seven out of ten matches. They lost to Quetta Gladiators in the qualifier match. In the final in Karachi, Peshawar Zalmi again lost to Quetta Gladiators. They were runners-up for the second year in a row.
Recent Seasons (2020-2024)
- 2020 Season: Peshawar Zalmi signed Hashim Amla as their batting mentor. They reached the playoffs but finished 4th.
- 2021 Season: They won 5 out of 10 matches. They reached the final but finished as runners-up.
- 2022 Season: They reached the playoffs and finished 4th.
- 2023 Season: They reached the playoffs and finished 3rd.
- 2024 Season: They reached the playoffs and finished 3rd.
Team Identity
The team's name, Zalmi, means "youth" in Pashto. The team's logo combines a traditional Peshawari turban with cricket stumps. The logo uses blue, yellow, and white colors. These colors show the pride of the region, the sky, and the energy of the people.
The team's kit colors were yellow and blue. Now they are yellow and black. Peshawar Zalmi is a very valuable sports brand in Pakistan. Many companies partner with them.
Famous actors like Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, and Mahira Khan have been team ambassadors. Actress Sana Javed and singer Gul Panra have also been goodwill ambassadors.

Zalmi Foundation: Helping Others
The Zalmi Foundation is a non-profit group. It was started in 2016. Their goal is to "Bring Back Smiles" by helping Pakistan. They work on projects for young people, women, education, health, and peace. They also promote sports.
The foundation has done many good things:
- In 2017, they teamed up with the International Rescue Committee. They worked to improve education in Pakistan.
- They give sports education to children through camps.
- They support Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.
- In 2016, they invited survivors of the Army Public School attack to watch PSL matches.
- In 2017, they took cancer patients from SKMH to Dubai for free. This gave the children a special trip.
- In 2019, they partnered with the U.S. consulate in Lahore. They started a Girls Cricket Camp. This helps young girls aged 13-16 get involved in sports. It helps them build confidence and leadership skills.
- During the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Zalmi Foundation helped a lot. They donated PKR 10 Million to the Prime Minister's Corona Relief Fund. They also gave 200,000 surgical masks to the government.
- They distributed food to over 36,000 families in remote areas.
- They even donated 50,000 masks and medical gear to the Afghanistan Government.
