The team represents Peshawar, the capital city of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Javed Afridi owns the team. Peshawar Zalmi started in 2015 when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the first PSL. Babar Azam is the current captain, and Inzamam-ul-Haq is the head coach.

Kamran Akmal has scored the most runs for the team. Wahab Riaz has taken the most wickets.

Team History and Success

Peshawar Zalmi joined the Pakistan Super League in 2015. The Peshawar team was bought by Javed Afridi for US$16 million. This deal was for ten years.

2016 Season: A Strong Start

Peshawar Zalmi started their first season in 2016 very well. They won their first two matches. The team won six out of eight group stage matches. This helped them finish first in the points table. They then moved on to the playoffs.

In the first playoff match, they lost to Quetta Gladiators by just one run. Because they finished first in the group, they got another chance. They played against Islamabad United in the second playoff match. Peshawar lost this game too and was out of the tournament.

2017 Season: Becoming Champions

Kamran akmal
Kamran Akmal was the top run-scorer and Player of the Tournament in 2017.

Peshawar Zalmi made some player changes before the 2017 season. They kept 10 players and signed eight new ones. These included international stars like Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan.

In their first game of PSL 2017, they lost to Islamabad United. However, they bounced back by beating Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars. A match against Quetta Gladiators was stopped due to rain.

Later in the tournament, Peshawar Zalmi won against Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. These wins helped them secure a spot in the playoffs. In the first playoff, they again lost to Quetta Gladiators by a small margin.

Peshawar then played Karachi Kings in the second playoff. Kamran Akmal scored an amazing 104 runs, helping Zalmi reach 181 runs. They won this match by 24 runs. This victory sent them to the final for the first time.

In the final, Peshawar Zalmi played against Quetta Gladiators. Zalmi batted first and scored 148 runs. Their bowler, Mohammad Asghar, took 3 wickets. Peshawar Zalmi won the final by 58 runs, becoming the PSL champions!

2018 Season: Runners-Up Again

Peshawar Zalmi, as defending champions, lost their first match of the 2018 season. They then won against Islamabad United. However, they lost a close game to Karachi Kings.

In Sharjah, they won a thrilling match against Quetta Gladiators. Darren Sammy, even while injured, helped them win by hitting quick runs. They also beat Lahore Qalandars by 10 wickets, which was a first for the PSL.

In the final, Peshawar Zalmi played against Islamabad United. Peshawar batted first and scored 148 runs. Islamabad chased the target and won by three wickets. Peshawar Zalmi finished as runners-up.

2019 Season: Another Final Appearance

Peshawar Zalmi finished first in the group stage in 2019. They won seven out of ten matches. They lost to Quetta Gladiators in the qualifier match.

In the final in Karachi, Peshawar Zalmi again faced Quetta Gladiators. They lost by 8 wickets and were runners-up for the second time.

Recent Seasons (2020-2024)

Peshawar Zalmi continued to perform well in recent seasons. In 2020, they signed Hashim Amla as their batting mentor. They reached the playoffs in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2021, they were runners-up again, showing their consistent strength in the league.

Team Identity and Support

The team's name, Zalmi, means "youth" in the Pashto language. The team's logo combines a traditional Peshawari turban with cricket stumps. The colors are blue, yellow, and white. These colors represent the region's pride, the sky, and the energy of its people.

Peshawar Zalmi's kit colors were yellow and blue, but they changed to yellow and black in PSL 4. Peshawar Zalmi is a very valuable sports brand in Pakistan. Many companies like Haier, TCL, and Sprite partner with them.

Famous actors like Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, and Mahira Khan have been team ambassadors. Singer Gul Panra is also a regional ambassador and sings the team's Pashto anthem.
