Early Life and School
Mahira Khan was born on December 21, 1984, in Karachi, Pakistan. Her parents are Urdu-speaking Pathans. Her father, Hafeez Khan, was born in Delhi, India, before the partition of India and later moved to Pakistan. She has a younger brother named Hasan Khan.
She went to the Foundation Public School in Karachi. When she was 17, she moved to California in the United States for college. She was the first woman in her family to travel and live abroad by herself. She attended Santa Monica College. Later, she said that living on her own in the U.S. helped her become strong and independent.
While studying, she also worked part-time at a store. She said, "I used to mop floors, clean floors, run the till and shut the store at night." Khan planned to get a master's degree at the University of Southern California. However, she decided to follow her dream of becoming an actress. She left her studies and returned to Pakistan.

How She Started (2006–2011)
Khan began her career in 2006 as a VJ, or video jockey. She hosted a live music show on MTV Pakistan called Most Wanted. In 2008, she hosted another show called Weekends with Mahira. On this show, she played music videos and talked to celebrity guests.
Her TV work made her noticeable. Director Shoaib Mansoor saw her and offered her a supporting role in his 2011 film Bol. She played Ayesha, a girl from a traditional family who loves music. The movie was a huge success. That same year, she also starred in her first TV drama, Neeyat.
Becoming a Star (2012–2017)

Khan met Ali Askari in 2005 while she was in the United States. They married in 2007, and she moved back to Pakistan. They have a son, Azlaan, who was born in 2010. The couple divorced in 2016. In 2023, Khan married Salim Karim, a businessman.
Khan is actively involved in helping others. She has helped raise money for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital, a cancer hospital in Pakistan.
