Glenn James Maxwell, born on October 14, 1988, is an Australian professional cricketer. He has played for the Australia national cricket team since 2012. Maxwell is known as an all-rounder, meaning he is good at both batting and bowling. He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off break (a type of spin bowling).

He is famous for his exciting and sometimes unusual batting style. This makes it hard for other teams to set up their fielders against him. Maxwell has been a key player in Australia's success. He helped them win the 2015 Cricket World Cup, the 2023 Cricket World Cup, and the 2021 T20 World Cup. In the 2023 World Cup final, he scored the winning runs for Australia.

Maxwell made his first professional appearance in 2010. He quickly became known for his fast scoring in shorter cricket games. In 2011, he set a record for the fastest half-century in Australian domestic one-day cricket. He scored 50 runs in just 19 balls. He has also scored centuries (100 runs or more) in all three types of international cricket games. Only a few cricketers have achieved this.

In 2023, Maxwell set a new record for the fastest century in a Cricket World Cup. He reached 100 runs in only 40 balls against the Netherlands. Later that month, he made history again. He scored the fastest double century (200 runs) in a World Cup. He was also the first male Australian player to score a double century in a One Day International (ODI).

Early Life and Cricket Start

Maxwell was born in Kew, Melbourne, Australia. He started playing junior cricket for the South Belgrave Cricket Club. When he first began, he played as a fast bowler. Later, he changed to bowling off spin, which is a type of spin bowling.

Amazing 201 Runs Against Afghanistan

On November 7, Maxwell played an incredible innings against Afghanistan. He scored 201 runs without being out. This was in a group stage match of the 2023 Cricket World Cup. Many fans and experts called it one of the "greatest ever innings in the history of ODI cricket."

Maxwell faced challenges during his innings, including cramps and injury. He found it hard to run between the wickets. So, he worked with his captain, Pat Cummins. They decided Maxwell would hit boundaries (fours or sixes) and Cummins would help him by taking singles.

Maxwell's double century helped Australia win the match. It also secured their spot in the semi-finals. He had some luck too. Early in his innings, he nearly got out but survived. He was also dropped by a fielder when he had only 33 runs.

His score of 201 runs included 21 fours and 10 sixes. It was the highest score ever by an Australian in an ODI match. He also became the second-fastest player to score a double century in ODI cricket. He completed his 200 runs with a winning six. This was also the fastest World Cup double century ever.

Maxwell became the first batsman to score a double century while chasing a target in an ODI. He also broke the record for the highest score in a successful run chase. He is only the third player to score a double century in World Cup history. He was the first to do it while batting second.

He also became the first middle-order batsman to score a double century in a Cricket World Cup. He and Pat Cummins set a new record for the highest eighth-wicket partnership in World Cup history. They added 202 runs together. Maxwell scored 179 of those runs, while Cummins scored 12. Their partnership saved Australia from a difficult situation.

Cricket legends, like Sachin Tendulkar, praised Maxwell's innings. Tendulkar called it "the best ODI knock I've seen in my life." Maxwell finished the World Cup with 400 runs and 6 wickets. He played a very important part in Australia winning their sixth World Cup title.
