The Multan Sultans are a professional cricket team from Pakistan. They represent the city of Multan in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The team was started in 2017 as the sixth team in the league. They play their home games at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
The team's first owners, Schön Properties, had their contract ended in 2018. This happened because they didn't pay their yearly fee. Later, a new group led by Alamgir Khan Tareen and Ali Khan Tareen took over. In 2021, Alamgir Khan Tareen became the only owner. After his passing in 2023, Ali Khan Tareen became the owner again. The Multan Sultans won their first PSL championship in 2021.

Team History
In April 2017, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) announced a new sixth team. This team would join the league for its third season in 2018. In June 2017, Schön Properties won the bid to own the team. They signed an eight-year contract.
However, on November 10, 2018, the PSL ended the agreement with Schön Properties. This was because the team's owners did not pay their annual fee. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) then took control of the team. They managed all player and coach contracts. Soon after, a new bidding process took place. A group called Multan Consortium, led by Alamgir Khan Tareen and Ali Khan Tareen, won the rights to the team. In 2021, Alamgir Khan Tareen became the sole owner. After he passed away in July 2023, Ali Khan Tareen took over the ownership.
2018 Season: The Start
The Multan Sultans played their first season in 2018. Shoaib Malik was the team's captain. Tom Moody was the head coach, and Wasim Akram was the team director.
The Sultans won their very first match. They beat the defending champions, Peshawar Zalmi, by seven wickets. However, they finished fifth in the league table. They won four matches and lost five, with one game having no result. They did not make it to the playoffs that year.
2019 Season: Still Building
Before the 2019 season, Johan Botha became the new head coach. He had been an assistant coach before. Wasim Akram also left the team.
The Sultans had a tough season. They lost their first game against Karachi Kings. Overall, they won only three matches. For the second year in a row, they finished fifth and missed the playoffs. Captain Shoaib Malik scored the most runs for the team with 266. Shahid Afridi took 10 wickets, leading the team in wickets.
2020 Season: First Playoff Appearance
For the 2020 season, Shan Masood was named the new team captain. Andy Flower became the head coach. The team had a great season. They finished at the top of the group stage, reaching the playoffs for the first time!
However, they lost both of their playoff matches. This meant they didn't reach the final. They finished third overall in the competition.
2021 Season: Champions!
The 2021 season was a big one for Multan Sultans. They finished second in the group stage. They then won their first qualifier match against Islamabad United. This win sent them straight to the final.
In the final, they played against Peshawar Zalmi. Multan Sultans won the match by 47 runs. This victory earned them their first-ever PSL championship title!
2022 Season: Runners-Up Again
In 2022, Multan Sultans showed how strong they were. They finished at the very top of the points table. They won 9 out of their 10 matches, which was an amazing performance. They stayed undefeated until the final match. However, they lost the final to Lahore Qalandars.
2023 Season: Another Close Call
Multan Sultans played very well in the 2023 season too. They were in second place on the table before the playoffs. They won their first playoff match against Lahore Qalandars, who were at the top. This win sent them directly to the final. But in a very close game, Lahore Qalandars won the final by just one run.
Team Identity
The Multan Sultans revealed their team logo and kit in September 2017. The team's song for the 2018 season was "Hum Hain Multan kay Sultans," sung by Waqar Ehsin. Famous Pakistani film stars like Momal Sheikh, Javed Sheikh, Ahsan Khan, Neelam Munir, and Sadia Khan were the team's special ambassadors for the 2018 season.
