Eyipantla Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Mexico. It is located in the southern part of Veracruz, a state in Mexico. This amazing waterfall is very wide and tall. It is 40 meters (about 131 feet) wide. It is also 50 meters (about 164 feet) tall. It is the biggest and most important waterfall in its area.

Where is Eyipantla Falls?

The waterfall is in a region called Los Tuxtlas. It is near the city of San Andrés Tuxtla. The falls are about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the city. Water from Lake Catemaco flows into the Catemaco River. This river then forms the Eyipantla Falls. The water eventually reaches the Gulf of Mexico.

What Does "Eyipantla" Mean?

The name "Eyipantla" comes from an old language. It is the Nahuatl language. The name means "three streams of water." This is because the falling water often splits into three parts. This happens especially during drier times of the year.

There is also an old legend about the falls. People used to believe that the rain god Tlaloc lived here.

Visiting Eyipantla Falls

Eyipantla Falls is a very popular place to visit. More than 500 people come to see it every day. You can find many restaurants and souvenir shops nearby. These shops are right at the entrance to the waterfall area.

Visitors can see the falls from two different spots. You can view them from below the falls. Or, you can see them from a platform at the top. The top view also gives you a great look at the mountains around the river. To get to the bottom, you need to walk down 244 stairs.

This stunning waterfall has been a setting for movies. Two famous films were shot at Eyipantla Falls. One was Medicine Man. This movie starred Sean Connery. It was filmed in the early 1990s. The other movie was Apocalypto. This film was directed by Mel Gibson. It was made in 2006.
