The FN Five-seveN is a special kind of pistol. It was designed and made by a company called Fabrique Nationale d’Armes de Guerre-Herstal, or FN Herstal, in Belgium. The pistol's name, "Five-seveN," comes from its 5.7-millimeter bullet size. The way "Five-seveN" is written, with the big "F" and "N," is a clever way to highlight the company's initials, FN.
This pistol was created at the same time as another weapon, the FN P90. Both use the same special FN 5.7×28mm ammunition. The P90 came out in 1990, and the Five-seveN followed in 1998. It was designed to be a partner to the P90.
The Five-seveN shares many cool features with the P90. It's a very light weapon because it's made mostly of polymer (a type of plastic). It can hold many bullets in its magazine. It's also easy for both right-handed and left-handed people to use. Plus, it has low recoil, which means it doesn't kick back much when fired. This makes it easier to control.
At first, FN only sold the Five-seveN to military groups and police forces. But since 2004, it has also been sold to regular people. They can use it for things like personal protection or target shooting. Even though the civilian version uses different ammunition, its release caused some debate.
Today, the Five-seveN is used by military and police in more than 40 countries. These include places like Canada, France, India, and the United States. In the U.S., many police groups use it, including the U.S. Secret Service. It has also become quite popular with civilian shooters.

How the Five-seveN Was Designed
The FN Five-seveN pistol was created to be a modern and effective handgun. It was designed to work perfectly with the special 5.7×28mm ammunition. This ammunition was also developed by FN Herstal.
Lightweight and Strong Materials
One of the most important parts of the Five-seveN's design is the materials it's made from. It uses a lot of polymer plastic. This makes the pistol very light, which is helpful for carrying it around. Even the metal part that slides back and forth when you shoot, called the slide, is covered in a polymer shell. This design makes the pistol strong but not heavy.
Easy to Handle
The Five-seveN is known for being easy to use. It has controls that work for both right-handed and left-handed people. This is called being ambidextrous. It also has very low recoil. This means when you fire it, the gun doesn't push back hard against your hand. This makes it easier to aim and shoot accurately, especially if you need to shoot quickly.
