Fabián Ariel Orellana Valenzuela (born 27 January 1986) is a Chilean former professional footballer. He was known for playing as a winger, which means he played on the sides of the field to help attack.
Fabián Orellana started his career in Chile with Audax Italiano. He then spent most of his playing time in Spain. There, he played for several teams like Xerez, Granada, Celta, Valencia, Eibar, and Valladolid. He played over 280 games and scored 42 goals in Spain's top league, La Liga.
He also played for the Chilean national team from 2008. Orellana played in two World Cups and helped Chile win the Copa América Centenario tournament in 2016.

Club Career
Fabián Orellana was born in Santiago, Chile. He began his football journey at a young age. He first played for Colo-Colo and then moved to Audax Italiano. He made his first professional appearance in the Chilean Primera División when he was just 18 years old.
In the 2007 season, he scored 12 goals in 38 games. His team, Audax Italiano, finished third in the Apertura tournament. They also reached the semi-finals in the play-offs of the Clausura tournament.
Moving to Spain
In 2009, Orellana signed with Udinese Calcio in Italy. However, he was immediately loaned to Xerez CD in Spain's second division, called the Segunda División. The next year, he continued playing in Spain. He joined Granada CF on loan. He played a big part in helping Granada return to La Liga, Spain's top league, after 35 years. He scored seven goals that season.
In 2011, Fabián Orellana officially became a player for Granada. Later that year, he was loaned to another Spanish second-division team, RC Celta de Vigo.
Time at Celta and Valencia
Celta de Vigo bought Orellana permanently in early 2013. He played many games for them. In 2015, he was sent off in a game against FC Barcelona. This happened after a disagreement on the field.
In 2017, after some issues with his coach at Celta, Orellana moved to Valencia CF on loan. This was also in La Liga. He later joined SD Eibar on loan in December 2017. Eibar is another team in the Spanish top league.
Later Career
In April 2018, Eibar made his move permanent. He played well for them, scoring eight goals in the 2019–20 season. He also helped his team by making many assists, which means he set up goals for his teammates.
On 20 July 2020, Orellana joined Real Valladolid for two years. However, in August 2021, he left the club after they were relegated from La Liga. After playing for Club Deportivo Universidad Católica in Chile, Orellana returned to Spain in 2023. He joined a team called xBuyer Team in the Kings League, which is a new football league.
International Career
Fabián Orellana started playing for the Chilean national team in 2008. He scored his first goal for Chile on 15 October 2008. This was in a World Cup qualifier game against Argentina in Santiago. Chile won that game 1–0.
On 10 October 2009, Orellana scored another important goal against Colombia. This goal helped Chile qualify for the FIFA World Cup after 12 years. At the World Cup in South Africa, he came on as a substitute in a game against Spain.
Orellana also played for the Chilean under-20 team in the 2008 Toulon Tournament. His team finished in second place.
Post-retirement
In December 2024, Fabián Orellana finished his studies to become a football manager. He studied at the National Institute of Football, Sports and Physical Activity in Chile.
Personal Life
Fabián Orellana has a nickname, El Poeta, which means "The Poet". He got this nickname because he looked like a funny character from Chilean comedy who had the same name. After he scored his goal against Argentina, people also started calling him El Histórico, meaning "The Historic One".
