Discover the History of Xerez CD
Football started in the Jerez de la Frontera area a long time ago. This was because of the strong connection between Jerez and the United Kingdom. Many people from the UK came to Jerez for the sherry wine trade. In the early 1900s, Sir Thomas Spencer, who worked for a wine company, created the Sociedad Jerez Foot-Ball Club. He was the club's chairman, a player, and the team captain!
How Xerez CD Got Its Name
From 1942 to 1947, the club had a few different names. It was finally called Jerez Club Deportivo. In the 1960s, the name changed to its current one: Xerez Club Deportivo. The team first reached the second division in the 1953–54 season. They stayed there for five years. Before that, in the 1940s, the team won games to move up. But the government at the time gave their spot to another team instead.
Moving to a New Stadium
The team's new stadium is called Estadio Municipal de Chapín. It opened on July 10, 1988. This new stadium replaced their old one, Estadio Domecq. The very first game played there was a friendly match against Real Madrid.
After many years in the second and third divisions, Xerez almost made it to La Liga (the top league) in the 2001–02 season. They had a great season and seemed sure to get promoted. But they lost many games near the end and missed their chance.
Reaching the Top League
Xerez kept playing well in the second division. In the 2008–09 season, they were always near the top. On June 13, 2009, they beat SD Huesca 2–1 at home. This win meant they were promoted to the top division for the first time ever! On the last day of the season, a draw against Celta de Vigo was enough for them to win the league title.
Challenges and Comebacks
Xerez's first season in La Liga was short. They were sent back down to the second division. They had a tough start, but played much better in the second half of the season. Even so, it wasn't enough to stay in the top league.
The next few years were difficult. In the 2012–13 season, the team faced serious money problems. They finished last and were moved down to the fourth division.
Because of these problems, some fans started a new club called Xerez Deportivo FC. Meanwhile, Xerez CD was moved down again to a lower league. But in May 2017, Xerez CD made it back to the Tercera División.
In the 2023–24 season, Xerez C.D. is working hard to get promoted to the Segunda RFEF. This season, they set a record by not letting any goals in during their first 9 league games! Xerez has also brought back many old fans and had nearly 9,000 people watch their games. This is amazing for a team in the fifth division of Spanish football.
Club Symbols and Identity
The Xerez CD Crest
The crest, or logo, of Xerez CD was designed in the summer of 1947 by Mariano Aricha de Vicente. The crest looks a lot like the city of Jerez's badge. It uses the same colors.
The crest is split into two parts by a white stripe. This stripe goes from the top right to the bottom left. In the top left, you can see blue waves on a silver (white) background. This is a main part of Jerez's city shield. In the bottom right, the letters C and D are linked together in white on a blue background. The crest has a crown on top, just like the city's shield.
The white stripe has the word "XEREZ" written in blue. When it was first designed, it said "JEREZ". But on August 21, 1962, the chairman Pablo Porro Guerrero decided to change the "J" to an "X". This was to honor the club's history and its link to the old Xerez FC.

The crest was changed again in the 2000s. The blue color was made a bit lighter. This helped the crest stand out more on the dark blue uniform. In September 2020, the club updated the crest again. They removed the black lines to give it a cleaner and more modern look. It can now be used in different colors, like blue, black, and white, to fit any design.

The fan group "Hools XCD" released their own anthem to celebrate 10 years of supporting the club.
- After ten years
- We are still here fighting
- I swore eternal love to you
- At the gates of hell
- Here we were, here we are and here we will be
- In good times, bad times and the worst times
- A thousand days of drunkenness
- Whole nights without rest
- To defend our team
- Always on the verge of crime
- Mi Xerez (My Xerez)
This song is a tribute to the Xerez C. D. fans. It was made by Los Killoque and Jose Monje, with help from El Pirata and Xerez veterans.
- Since childhood, he puts on the shirt
- On his chest goes his shield and his flag
- Through the streets of Jerez he walks
- To Chapín to fulfill a promise
- Proud to feel like a Xerecista
- With his head held high
- As his father taught him
- From heaven he knows he is watching
- Giving strength and support
- To his champion team
- My Xerez, ole, with ole, and ole
- Ole, with ole, and ole
- My Xerez Club Deportivo
Home Grounds: Where Xerez CD Plays
Since 2013, Xerez CD has had trouble playing its home games in Jerez de la Frontera. This is because of new rules from the City Council about using municipal sports facilities.
The team has had to train and play its home games in different fields around the province. Sometimes they play in Jerez stadiums like La Juventud, La Canaleja, La Granja, El Torno, or Picadueñas. In the 2017–18 season, Xerez played in seven different stadiums! Today, they play their home games at the Municipal de Chapín.
Chapín Stadium: The Main Home
From 1998 to 2014, Xerez played most of its home matches at Municipal de Chapín. This stadium opened in 1988 and can hold 20,523 people. The first game there was Xerez C.D. against Real Madrid. The field is 105 by 68 meters.
One popular area for fans was "Preferencia". Another area, "Fondo Sur", had a great atmosphere. The "Tribuna" stand was where many well-known people in Jerez sat. It also has the VIP boxes and radio booths. The "Fondo Norte" stand was often full of fans, especially for big matches. When the team was promoted to La Liga, this stand had to be numbered to follow league rules.
Chapín stadium has one main issue: it's hard for fans to see the game clearly. This is because there are athletics tracks between the stands and the grass. This creates a distance. There have been ideas to fix this, like removing the tracks and building new stands closer to the field. But these plans were not approved.
Other Important Stadiums
Before Chapín opened in 1988, the team played at the Domecq Stadium. This area is now a residential park called Parque Stadium.
During the 2001–02 season, Chapín was being updated for the 2002 equestrian games. So, Xerez played in other stadiums. These included the "El Palmar Stadium" in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and "Bahía Sur" in San Fernando. Eventually, they returned to Jerez to play in the updated Estadio de la Juventud and then back at Chapín.
Team Uniforms: The Colors of Xerez

- 2nd Kit: White T-shirt with black stripes, Black shorts, and Black socks.
- 3rd Kit: Gradient green T-shirt, Green shorts, and Golden socks.

Xerez's main uniform has always been a blue shirt, white shorts, and blue socks. The away uniform is usually white with blue shorts. The third kit changes the most, sometimes being black, pink, wine-colored, green, or orange.
