Playing Career Highlights
Néstor Pipo Gorosito started his football journey at River Plate, one of Argentina's biggest clubs. He played there from 1982 to 1988. After that, he had three different periods playing for San Lorenzo, where he scored an impressive 72 goals in 241 games.
He also played for Universidad Católica in Chile. He made 149 appearances for them and finished his playing career there in 2000.
Gorosito also played in Europe for Swarovski Tirol in Austria from 1989 to 1991. Later, in 1996, he played in Japan for Yokohama Marinos. He was also a part of the Argentina national team, playing 19 games between 1989 and 1997.
Managerial Journey
Gorosito began his coaching career at Nueva Chicago in 2003. He helped them avoid being moved down to a lower league. After that, he became the manager of San Lorenzo de Almagro, but he left in 2004 after some difficult games.
In 2005, Gorosito managed Lanús, but his time there was short, lasting only two months. The next year, he took charge of Rosario Central, but he was relieved of his duties in March 2007.
Leading Argentinos Juniors
In 2008, Gorosito led Argentinos Juniors to qualify for the 2008 Copa Sudamericana. This was a big deal because it was the club's first international tournament since 1996. He returned to Argentinos Juniors later in 2011, but he had to resign in February 2012 due to injuries from a car crash. He came back to Argentinos again in October 2014 and helped the club return to the top division.
Time at River Plate and Xerez
On December 8, 2008, Gorosito was appointed manager of River Plate, his former club as a player. However, he resigned on October 4, 2009, after the team didn't perform as well as expected in the Copa Libertadores and the Argentine league.
On January 19, 2010, Gorosito became the manager of Xerez CD in Spain. The team was at the very bottom of La Liga, Spain's top league. Even though the team was moved down to a lower league, he managed to win seven out of 19 matches. He left the club in July because he couldn't agree on a new contract.
Coaching Tigre and Other Clubs
On October 23, 2012, he was appointed manager of Tigre. He led Tigre to the final of the 2012 Copa Sudamericana, a major South American tournament. He stepped down from his role on July 6, 2013, after some disagreements with the club's management. He returned to Tigre in 2019 and led them to win the Copa de la Superliga in 2019.
Gorosito also managed UD Almería in Spain in 2015-2016, San Martín (SJ) in Argentina, Olimpia in Paraguay, Gimnasia La Plata, and Colón in Argentina. He is currently the head coach of Alianza Lima.
