Fabián Roncero Domínguez was born on October 19, 1970, in Madrid, Spain. He is a famous former long-distance runner from Spain. He competed in many different types of running races. These included races on a track, cross country (running over natural land), and road running races.
One of his most amazing achievements was setting a European record for the half marathon in 2001. He ran the race in an incredible 59 minutes and 52 seconds! This record was the fastest in Europe for fourteen years. It is still the fastest time ever run by a Spanish athlete for the half marathon distance. Fabián also holds other Spanish national records. These include the 10,000 metres race and certain distances in road races, like 15 km, 20 km, and 30 km.
He proudly represented his country, Spain, at the World Championships in Athletics three times in a row. In 1997, he finished sixth in the marathon race. In 2001, he achieved a great fifth place in the 10,000 metres race. He also competed in the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 1995.

Running on Different Terrains
Cross Country Success
Fabián Roncero was also a very strong cross country runner. He took part in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships four times. His best performance was finishing tenth in the long race in 1998.
He won a bronze medal at the 2002 European Cross Country Championships. His strong performance also helped the Spanish men's team win the team title that year. He also helped his team win a bronze medal in 1998 and a silver medal in 2003 at the European Cross Country Championships. In the 2003 race, he finished sixth individually.
Marathon Wins on the Road
Fabián Roncero had great success in road running, especially in marathons. In 1996, he won the Italian Marathon with a time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 43 seconds. Two years later, in 1998, he won the Rotterdam Marathon. This was his fastest marathon ever, finishing in 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 26 seconds.
He returned to the Rotterdam Marathon in 2001. Although he ran a good time of 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 8 seconds, he finished seventh that day. As of today, Fabián Roncero is the most recent European man to have won the Rotterdam Marathon.
