The Fairfield Historic District is a special area in Fairfield, Pennsylvania, located in Adams County, Pennsylvania. It's called a "historic district" because it has many old buildings and places that are important to history. This district includes 117 buildings, one site, and two structures that help tell the story of the past.
The district covers the main part of Fairfield, where businesses are, and also the neighborhoods around it. This includes the Daniel Musselman Farm. Most of these buildings were built a long time ago, from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s.

A Glimpse into History
Many homes in the Fairfield Historic District were used as hospitals after a fight on July 3, 1863. This fight was a small battle involving the 6th U.S. Cavalry during the Battle of Fairfield. This battle was part of the larger Gettysburg Campaign during the American Civil War.
The Musselman Farm's Role
The Musselman Farm property played a very important part during the Civil War. It served as a field hospital for Johnson's Division of the Confederate States Army. Field hospitals were temporary places set up close to battles to care for injured soldiers.
Notable Buildings and Styles
The district features several interesting buildings. One is the John Miller Manor House, built in 1797. The Musselman Farmhouse is another important building, known for its Greek Revival architecture style. It also has a unique stone and frame barn complex.
You can also find old Lutheran and Roman Catholic churches within the district. Other notable homes include the Mrs. Blythe House and the R.C. Swope House. These buildings show different styles of architecture from the past.
The Fairfield Inn, a very old and famous building, is also located in this historic district. It is so important that it is listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Fairfield Historic District was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places in the year 2000. This listing helps protect the district and recognize its importance to the history of the United States.
