Fairmount is a small place in Leavenworth County, Kansas, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's not an official city or town with its own local government.
Fairmount is part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area. It is located just north of the city of Basehor.
A Look Back: Fairmount's History
Fairmount was officially planned out in 1867. This process is called being "platted." It means the streets and lots were drawn on a map.
Back in 1912, Fairmount was a bit busier. It had four stores where people could shop. There was also one factory, likely making goods for the area.
The local post office in Fairmount closed its doors in 1934. This meant people had to go to nearby towns for their mail.

Today, Fairmount is mostly made up of several housing areas. These neighborhoods are close to other cities. They are near Lake Quivira, Bonner Springs, and Basehor. It's also near the Piper neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas.
