Falih Rıfkı Atay (born in 1894, died on March 20, 1971) was an important Turkish journalist, writer, and politician. He was active during a key period in Turkish history, from 1923 to 1950. He is known for his many books and articles.

About Falih Rıfkı Atay
Falih Rıfkı Atay was the son of an imam named Halil Hilmi Efendi. He grew up and went to school in Istanbul, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire.
His Start in Journalism
Falih Rıfkı began his career as a journalist at a newspaper called Tanin. This newspaper was linked to a political group called the Committee of Union and Progress. Later, he became the private secretary for Talat Pasha, an important leader at the time.
During World War I, he traveled with Cemal Pasha in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign. This was a military effort in the Middle East.
Supporting Turkish Independence
After World War I, Falih Rıfkı and three friends started a new newspaper called Akşam. This newspaper strongly supported the Turkish War of Independence. This war was fought to create the modern country of Turkey.
From 1919 to 1920, he also wrote for Büyük Mecmua magazine. This magazine also supported the fight for independence.
On September 9, 1922, Falih Rıfkı visited Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Izmir. Atatürk was the leader of the Turkish War of Independence. Falih Rıfkı arrived just before a big fire happened in Izmir on September 13. Later, he became the main editor for the newspaper Hakimiyet-i Milliye.
Becoming a Politician
In 1923, Falih Rıfkı Atay entered politics. He served as a representative in the Turkish parliament. He represented the cities of Bolu and later Ankara. He continued to serve in parliament until the elections in 1950.
In the early 1950s, Atay wrote for a history magazine called Tarih Dünyası. He wrote more than 30 books and articles during his life.
Falih Rıfkı Atay passed away on March 20, 1971, in Istanbul. He was buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery in Istanbul.
His Legacy
In 2011, a special nature park was named in his honor. This park is located inside the Belgrad Forest in the Sarıyer district of Istanbul Province.
