The Fan Museum is a special place in London, England. It opened in 1991 and is the first museum in the world just for hand fans! It's located in two old houses built in 1721. These houses are part of the Greenwich World Heritage Site.

The museum also has a beautiful orangery (a type of greenhouse) with painted walls. There's a Japanese-style garden too. This garden has a fan-shaped flowerbed, a pond, and a small stream.

Discovering The Fan Museum's Collection

The Fan Museum has a huge collection of over 6,000 fans. It also has other items related to fans. The oldest fan in the museum is from the 11th century. That's over 900 years old! The museum has many fans from the 1700s and 1800s from Europe.

What You Can See at the Museum

Not all fans can be shown at once. This is because they are very old and need to be protected. But there is always a special display that teaches you about fans. You can learn about their history and how they are made. You can also see the many different shapes and styles of fans.

Some fans in the collection are very unique. One fan even has a tiny ear trumpet built into it! Another fan comes with its own repair kit. The museum also offers classes where you can learn how to make your own fan. There is also a library where you can read more about fans.

The Fan Museum does not get money from the government. It relies on visitors and donations to keep going.
