History of Farmington
Farmington got its name because it was a farming area. This helped people tell it apart from places nearby that were known for mining.

To the east of Farmington, you'll find low, bare hills. Even farther east are the large Sierra Nevada mountains. Stockton East Creek flows along the southern edge of Farmington. It runs next to Highway 4 for a short distance.
Farmington in Movies
This area has been used as a filming location for movies! Stockton East Creek and other spots nearby appeared in the 1958 film The Big Country. Scenes for the 1974 movie Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry were also filmed here.
