Fausta Simona Morganti (born August 20, 1944 – died February 2, 2021) was an important politician from San Marino. San Marino is a very small country located inside Italy. Fausta Morganti was known for her work in the government of her country.
Fausta Morganti's Political Journey
Fausta Morganti served as a Captain Regent of San Marino. This is like being one of the two heads of state for the country, but only for a short time. She held this important role from April 1, 2005, to October 1, 2005. She shared this position with another leader named Cesare Gasperoni.
Before becoming Captain Regent, Fausta Morganti was a member of the Party of Democrats. She made history in 1974 when she was one of the first three women ever elected to the Grand and General Council. This Council is like San Marino's parliament or main law-making body. The other two women elected at that time were Clara Boscaglia and Marina Busignani Reffi. While Marina Reffi did not take her seat, Clara Boscaglia did, making them pioneers for women in politics in San Marino.
Later Life and Passing
Fausta Morganti passed away on February 2, 2021, at the age of 76. She died from COVID-19 during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic in San Marino.
