Favre Lake is a beautiful mountain lake found in the Ruby Mountains of Elko County, Nevada, United States. It's a special kind of lake called a "tarn." This means it was formed by giant sheets of ice, called glaciers, many years ago. The lake is part of the Ruby Mountains Wilderness, a protected area managed by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Favre Lake is a cool place to visit. It sits high up in the mountains. The lake helps feed a stream called Kleckner Creek. This creek eventually joins other streams to form the South Fork of the Humboldt River.
Where is Favre Lake?
The lake is located at the top of Kleckner Canyon. You can find it at about 40 degrees 34.4 minutes North and 115 degrees 23.8 minutes West. It is very high up, at an elevation of 9,511 feet (2,899 meters) above sea level. Imagine being almost two miles high!
How Big is the Lake?
Favre Lake covers an area of about 19 acres (7.7 hectares). That's roughly the size of 14 football fields! It's also quite deep in some spots. The deepest part of the lake is about 45 feet (13.7 meters). That's as tall as a four-story building.
What is a Tarn?
A tarn is a lake that forms in a hollow. This hollow is often shaped like a bowl. It's carved out by a glacier. As glaciers move, they scrape away rock and soil. When the glacier melts, the hollow fills with water. This creates a tarn, like Favre Lake.
