Feast Picnic
The 'Picnic in the Park', held in Rymill Park, is a major event of the Feast Festival, usually held at its conclusion.

The Feast Festival is a fun annual event held in Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is one of Australia's biggest festivals that celebrates arts and culture for a diverse community. People come together to enjoy many different performances and shows.

How Feast Festival Started

The Feast Festival began in 1997. A group of creative people wanted to create a special arts festival. Margie Fischer, Damien Carey, Helen Bock, and Luke Cutler worked together to make this dream come true. They wanted a festival for the lesbian and gay community in Adelaide.

In 1999, a famous performer named Paul Capsis sang at the festival's opening concert. Many talented artists have performed at Feast over the years. In 2009, singers like Emily Davis and Vicki Bennett were part of the "Sing Out" event. In 2016, Dannii Minogue was the main star at the big opening night street party.

Lots of people enjoy the Feast Festival. In 2011, about 48,000 people went to the events. Another 40,000 people listened to a live radio show from the "Picnic in the Park" event.

How the Festival Gets Support

Running a big festival like Feast needs a lot of support. The festival works hard to get funding from different places. This helps make sure the festival can happen every year.

Feast Festival gets help from:

  • The South Australian Government, through Arts SA and the SA Tourism Commission.
  • The local government, like the Adelaide City Council.

Many companies and groups also help by sponsoring the festival each year. Some of these include the Adelaide City Council, South Australian Tourism Commission, Coopers Brewery, Arts SA, Blaze Magazine, and AGL Energy.

Feast Festival is also a founding member of a new group called Festivals Adelaide. This group helps different festivals in Adelaide work together.
