Luis Federico Franco Gómez (born July 24, 1962) is a politician from Paraguay. He served as the President of Paraguay from June 2012 to August 2013. He is a member of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA).
Before becoming president, he was the Vice President of Paraguay. He was elected in 2008 alongside Fernando Lugo. He took office as Vice President in August 2008. After Lugo was removed from office in June 2012, Federico Franco became president. He finished the rest of Lugo's term, which ended in August 2013.
Federico Franco is also a surgeon. His brother, Julio César Franco, is a senator and was also a Vice President. Federico Franco himself was the chairman of the PLRA. He also served as the Governor of the Central Department from 2003 to 2008.

Biography
Early Life and Education
Federico Franco was born in Asunción, Paraguay, on July 24, 1962. He married Emilia Alfaro on February 20, 1982. They have four children together. Emilia Alfaro was elected as a deputy (a type of representative) for Paraguay.
He went to primary school in the Dominican Republic. His high school education was completed in Asunción. Federico Franco wanted to become a doctor. He studied at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the National University of Asuncion. He finished his studies in 1986 and became a surgeon. He also earned a special degree in Internal Medicine.
Medical Career
The Franco family owns a hospital in Fernando de la Mora. It is called Sanatorio Franco. Federico and his brothers worked there from the beginning.
He held several important positions at the Hospital de Clinicas (HC). He was a head of interns and residents from 1990 to 1991. He also worked as a head of emergency calls. From 1991 to 1992, he taught medical semiology. He was also chief of the National Guard Hospital from 1994 to 1996. He was a chief of internal medicine residents there too. He also led the cardiology ward at the hospital.
In 1991, he became a member of the Paraguayan Society of Internal Medicine. He also joined its Executive Committee.
Political Journey
Federico Franco was the governor of the Central department. He served in this role from 2003 to 2008. He represented the Authentic Radical Liberal Party.
In 2008, his party decided to support Fernando Lugo for president. Federico Franco ran as Lugo's running mate for vice president. They won the election together. During Lugo's presidency, Franco sometimes disagreed with his decisions.
Becoming President
On June 21, 2012, Fernando Lugo was removed from office by the Senate. This event is known as the impeachment of Fernando Lugo. The next day, Federico Franco became the new president. He took the oath of office shortly after Lugo's removal.
He served as president for the rest of Lugo's term. This lasted until August 2013. The Paraguayan Constitution does not allow a president to run for reelection if they serve a partial term. Because of this, Federico Franco could not run for president in the 2013 election.
His Time as President
When Federico Franco became president, he made some changes. One of his first actions was to appoint new ministers. For example, he replaced the Interior Minister with Carmelo Caballero.
He also restarted talks with a company called Rio Tinto Alcan. They were discussing a large aluminum plant project. He also approved the sale of genetically modified soy beans from Monsanto. He appointed several people who worked in farming businesses to his government.
