Feilding Aerodrome (its special code is NZFI) is a small airport. It is located about 5.6 kilometers southeast of Feilding. Feilding is a town in the Manawatu area of the North Island of New Zealand. This airport is open to the public.
Flying at Feilding Aerodrome
Pilots flying at Feilding Aerodrome follow certain rules. These rules help everyone fly safely.
Pilot Lighting
The airport has special lights that pilots can turn on themselves. This is called Pilot Activated Lighting. It helps them see the runway clearly, especially when it's dark.
Flight Paths and Altitude
When planes fly near the airport, they follow a specific path called a "circuit." This path helps planes take off and land in an organized way.
- For Runway 10, planes turn left during their circuit.
- For Runway 28, planes turn right during their circuit.
The circuit altitude, which is how high planes fly during the circuit, is 1,100 feet above sea level. When planes join the circuit from above, they usually do so at 1,500 feet.
Gliding Activities
Feilding Aerodrome is also a popular spot for gliders. The Wanganui Manawatu Gliding Club uses the field for their gliding activities. Gliders are aircraft that fly without an engine, using air currents.
