Ferber Hills facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Ferber Hills are a fascinating group of hills that stretch across two states in the western United States: Elko County, Nevada and Tooele County, Utah. These hills are like three long, parallel ridges that run from the northwest to the southeast.

Exploring the Ferber Hills

The Ferber Hills are known for their unique shape. They are made up of three distinct ridges that stand next to each other. This makes them easy to spot on a map or from a distance.

Tallest Peaks in the Hills

The highest point in the Ferber Hills is a summit called Utah Peak. It stands tall at 6,680 feet (or 2,036 meters) above sea level. Utah Peak is located right in the middle of the central ridge, just east of the state line in Tooele County, Utah.

The second highest point is Ferber Peak. This peak reaches an elevation of 6,601 feet (or 2,012 meters). You can find Ferber Peak at the southern end of the southernmost ridge. It's just west of the state line in Elko County, Nevada. Its exact location is 40°12′43″N 114°03′18″W / 40.21194°N 114.05500°W / 40.21194; -114.05500.

Even the smallest of the three ridges, the northernmost one, has its own high point. This unnamed summit is 5,745 feet (or 1,751 meters) high. It is located in Tooele County at 40°17′12″N 113°59′48″W / 40.28667°N 113.99667°W / 40.28667; -113.99667.

What's Around the Ferber Hills?

The Ferber Hills are surrounded by other interesting landforms. To the west and southwest, they are separated from the Goshute Mountains by two flat areas. These areas are known as White Horse Flat and Ferber Flat.

To the east, the hills meet the Deep Creek Valley. This valley is home to a stream called Deep Creek. This creek actually gives the Ferber Hills their name! On the other side of Deep Creek, you'll find another mountain range, the Deep Creek Mountains.
