Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ferenc Doór (born June 14, 1918 – died July 10, 2015) was a talented Hungarian painter and graphic artist. He was known for his love of the Danube River and the town of Szentendre, which often appeared in his beautiful artworks.

A Painter's Journey

Ferenc Doór was born in a place called Petrilla, in Transylvania, on June 14, 1918. From 1938 to 1941, he studied art at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest. His teacher was a famous artist named István Szőnyi.

After World War II, Ferenc Doór was held as a prisoner of war in Siberia for three years. When he was released in 1949, he finished his studies. He then became a teacher (an assistant professor) for Szőnyi and became an important part of the Hungarian art world. In 1957, he joined the Art Fund of the Fine Arts Association.

Ferenc Doór continued to paint with natural themes and human figures. He used rich colors and created balanced pictures. His oil paintings often showed a lot of color and light, which were key parts of his artistic style.

He once wrote about his own work: "I tried to follow my artistic ideas faithfully. I wanted to capture the beauty in everyday life. This included small joys and sorrows, and the timeless feeling of a changing landscape."

Ferenc Doór passed away in his home in Szentendre on July 10, 2015. He was 97 years old.
