His Important Work

Nicholas Ó Gadhra is best known for putting together a special collection of writings. This collection is called the O Gara Manuscript. Today, you can find it at the Royal Irish Academy as manuscript number 23 F 16.

He worked on this important manuscript between 1655 and 1659. He did this work in two different cities: Antwerp and Lisle.

Life and Travels

After finishing his work on the manuscript, Nicholas Ó Gadhra returned to Ireland. He arrived back home sometime before June 5, 1686. On that date, he confirmed he was safe and sound in a place called Bannada, which is in County Sligo.

He once wrote that he had never had a teacher for his writing. This shows that he learned to be a scribe all by himself. His work was clearly something he loved doing very much.
