Fernando Barrón y Ortiz (1892–1952) was an important Spanish army leader. He was one of the main commanders of special troops from Africa. He supported a military uprising in July 1936. This event started the Spanish Civil War.
During the war, he led parts of the Spanish Army of Africa. They advanced towards Madrid. He was involved in many key battles. After the war, he served in the government led by General Franco.

Early Military Career
Fernando Barrón y Ortiz was born in 1892. He became a military officer. He was one of five commanders of the "Regulares." These were special troops from Africa. They played a big role in the Spanish army.
Role in the Spanish Civil War
The Spanish Civil War began in July 1936. Fernando Barrón y Ortiz supported the military group that started the war. This group was called the Nationalists. He became a key leader for them.
Advance Towards Madrid
In the early days of the war, Barrón led his troops. They were part of the Spanish Army of Africa. Their goal was to move towards Madrid, the capital city. This was known as the Extremadura Campaign.
In November 1936, he led a Nationalist attack. They fought in Carabanchel, a suburb of Madrid. In December 1936, he led a group of soldiers. They fought in the Second Battle of the Corunna Road.
Key Battles and Campaigns
Barrón continued to lead his troops in many battles. In January 1937, he commanded a brigade. This was during the Battle of Jarama. In May 1937, he helped in a counterattack. This happened during the Segovia Offensive.
In June 1937, he led the 13th division. They fought in the Battle of Brunete. In August, he was part of the Battle of Belchite (1937). In March 1938, he fought in the Battle of Caspe.
Defense of Gandesa
One of his most important roles was during the Battle of the Ebro. This was a very large and tough battle. Barrón led the Nationalist defense of the town of Gandesa. His actions helped his side hold their ground.
After the War
After the Spanish Civil War ended, Fernando Barrón y Ortiz continued to serve. He became a minister in the government. This government was led by General Francisco Franco. He served until his death in 1952.
