Fernandus Lamar Vinson, born on November 3, 1968, is a former American professional football player. He played as a safety for four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals in the National Football League (NFL). The Bengals picked him in the seventh round of the 1991 NFL draft after he played college football at North Carolina State University.

His Early Life and College Years

Fernandus Lamar Vinson was born in Montgomery, Alabama. He went to George Washington Carver High School in Montgomery.

He played college football for the North Carolina State Wolfpack. He was a key player for four years, from 1987 to 1990. In both 1989 and 1990, he was named second-team All-ACC. This means he was one of the best players in his college football conference.

Playing in the NFL

The Cincinnati Bengals chose Vinson in the seventh round of the 1991 NFL draft. He was the 184th player picked overall. He officially joined the team on July 18, 1991.

He played in 13 games for the Bengals during the 1991 season. He made six tackles that year. After the season, he became a free agent but re-signed with the Bengals.

In 1992, Vinson played in 13 games and started four of them. He had 21 tackles and one sack. He also scored a touchdown by returning a fumble 22 yards! He was placed on injured reserve in December 1992.

He was released in August 1993 but re-signed a few days later. In 1993, Vinson played in all 16 games for the Bengals. He started seven games and made 32 tackles. He also forced two fumbles and recovered three fumbles.

After the 1993 season, he became a free agent again and re-signed with the team in May 1994. He played in all 16 games for the second year in a row. He started four games and had 29 solo tackles and one forced fumble. He became a free agent after the 1994 season.

After his football career, Fernandus Vinson continued his education. He earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Methodist University. Later, he received a master's degree in professional counseling from Liberty University. He has worked as a counselor, helping people.
