Ferran Olivella Pons (born 22 June 1936 – died 14 May 2023) was a Spanish football player. He was known for playing as a defender.

Ferran Olivella's Club Journey

Ferran Olivella was born in Barcelona, Catalonia. He joined the youth team of FC Barcelona when he was 17 years old. Before playing for the main Barcelona team, he started his senior career with a nearby club called SD España Industrial. This team played in the Segunda División, which is Spain's second-highest football league.

Olivella returned to the famous Camp Nou stadium, Barcelona's home ground, in 1956. He played a total of 320 official games for FC Barcelona. During his time there, he helped the team win the La Liga championship two times in a row, in 1958–59 and 1959–60. He scored his only professional goal on 14 February 1960. It was in a big 8–0 win against UD Las Palmas at home.

Playing for Spain: International Career

Ferran Olivella played 18 games, also known as caps, for the Spanish national team over eight years. His first game was on 31 March 1957. It was a friendly match where Spain won 5–0 against Belgium.

Olivella was the captain when Spain won the 1964 European Nations' Cup. This was a very important tournament for his country. He was also chosen to be part of the squad for the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England. Although he didn't play in any matches, he was part of the team. Spain was knocked out in the group stage of that tournament.

His Final Years

Ferran Olivella passed away on 14 May 2023. He was 86 years old.
