The Festa da Uva (which means "Grape Festival") is a big celebration in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, a city in southern Brazil. It celebrates the special history and culture of people in Brazil who have Italian roots. This festival happens every two years, usually in February or March, in years like 2020, 2022, and so on.

During the Festa da Uva, special exhibition halls in Caxias do Sul host many fun activities. Most attractions come from South America, but some are from other parts of the world. Visitors can try delicious cheese, fresh grapes, and different kinds of Brazilian wine. Many people come to the festival, and local sellers offer unique products from the southern gaúcho region.

The Festa also has exciting parades that go through the city every night. A "Rainha" (Queen) and two "Princesas" (Princesses) are chosen to lead the Festa. They are picked after a special beauty pageant. The first queen for the Festa da Uva was chosen in 1933.

History of the Festival

The Festa da Uva began in 1931. It started as a harvest festival to celebrate the gathering of grapes. In Brazil, the grape harvest happens in February and March because the country is in the Southern Hemisphere.

Colonel Miguel Muratore was the Mayor of Caxias do Sul in 1931. He gave a lot of help to the people organizing the Festa. This support was very important to get the festival started.

The Festa did not happen for several years, from 1938 to 1949. This break was due to money problems in the city and the surrounding area where many Italian families lived. These problems were partly caused by World War II. During the war, Italy was against the Allies, and the festival celebrated Italian culture.
