Filip Novák (born May 7, 1982) is a professional ice hockey player from the Czech Republic. He plays as a defence player, helping to protect his team's goal. Filip currently plays for Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), which is a major hockey league. He is a two-time winner of the Gagarin Cup, a championship trophy in the KHL, which he won with Dynamo Moscow in 2012 and 2013.
Filip Novák's Hockey Journey
Filip Novák started his hockey career playing junior hockey in his home country, the Czech Republic. He also played for the Regina Pats in the Western Hockey League (WHL) in North America.
In 2000, when he was 18, Filip was chosen by the New York Rangers in the second round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. This is a special event where professional teams pick young players to join their clubs. After being drafted, he continued to play for the Regina Pats for two more seasons.
In 2002, Filip was part of a big player trade between teams. He moved to the Florida Panthers. Around this time, he had a serious injury that kept him from playing for a while. He returned to the ice in late 2004, playing for the San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Before the 2005–06 season, Filip was traded again, this time to the Ottawa Senators. In 2006, he signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Filip later moved to the KHL. On May 1, 2014, he signed a new two-year contract to stay with HC Dynamo Moscow. He had a lot of success there, winning the Gagarin Cup twice.
In the 2015–16 KHL season, Filip started with HC Slovan Bratislava. After playing 16 games, he was traded to another KHL team, Traktor Chelyabinsk, where he plays today.
