Early Career Highlights

Winning a Second Title

Filippo Volandri won his second big tennis title in September 2006. He played against Nicolás Lapentti in the final match. This win was at the Sicily International tournament.

Big Wins in 2007

At the Rome Masters in 2007, Volandri had a huge victory. He was a wild card entry, meaning he got a special invitation to play. He beat Roger Federer, who was the world's No. 1 player at the time. Volandri won in two straight sets, 6–2, 6–4.

After his win, Volandri celebrated by running around the court. He high-fived fans in the front rows. He said this win was important for himself and for Italy. Roger Federer is known as one of the best players ever. Volandri's win showed that Italy could compete with the top tennis nations.

Volandri continued his great run in Rome. He beat Tomáš Berdych, who was ranked No. 12 in the world. This win helped him reach the semifinals. He was the first Italian player to do this since 1978. His journey ended when he lost to Fernando González in the semifinals.

Later in 2007, Volandri played at the 2007 French Open. He was the 29th seeded player. He made it to the fourth round of this major tournament. This success helped him reach his career-high ranking of No. 27 in the world.

Later Career and Achievements

After a challenging period, Volandri continued to compete. In 2012, he reached the final of the 2012 Brasil Open. He mostly played on the ATP Challenger Tour. This tour helps players gain experience and improve their rankings.

On 23 June 2015, Volandri achieved a special milestone. He completed 300 wins at ATP Challenger Tour tournaments. He beat Oriol Roca Batalla at the Aspria Tennis Cup in Milan. He was only the fourth player to reach this many wins.
