Filipstad is a town in Sweden. It is located in Värmland County and is the main town of Filipstad Municipality. In 2019, about 10,644 people lived there.
History of Filipstad
Filipstad became a city in 1611. King Charles IX of Sweden gave it this special right. He named the city after his son, Duke Carl Philip.
In 1694, a big fire destroyed much of Filipstad. Because of this, the city lost its special rights. People thought there wouldn't be enough forest left to rebuild the town properly.
However, in 1835, Filipstad got its city rights back. Later, in 1971, new government rules changed how cities were managed. Even though Filipstad is a smaller town today, it is still often called a "city" because of its long history.
What Filipstad is Known For
Filipstad is home to the Klockarhöjdenmasten. This is a very tall tower, about 330 meters high. It is used to broadcast FM radio and TV signals.
The town also has a factory for Wasabröd. This company makes crisp bread, which is a type of flat, dry bread. Wasabröd is the largest crisp bread maker in the world. Their factory in Filipstad is one of only two they have, with the other one in Germany.
