Fazer - Finlandia marmelade

Finlandia is a special kind of marmalade candy. It is made by a famous Finnish company called Fazer. This candy was the very first product Fazer ever sold to other countries!

How Finlandia Candies Are Made

Making Finlandia candies has changed over the years. Long ago, in the 1950s, these sweet treats were made by hand.

Old Way of Making Candy

Workers would pour the marmalade into metal molds. These molds were then put into a refrigerator for a short time. After cooling, each candy was carefully taken out of its mold with a fork. It was a slow and careful process!

Modern Candy Production

Since the year 2000, machines help make the candies much faster. Now, the marmalade is shaped into two half-spheres. These two soft halves are then pressed together by a machine to form a perfect round candy.

Candy Shapes Over Time

When Finlandia candies were first made, they looked like little fruits. But today, all Finlandia candies are round, like small colorful balls.

The Sweet History of Finlandia

Finlandia candies have a long and interesting history, especially with royalty!

Candy for Kings and Queens

In 1902, Fazer sent some of their fruit marmalade candies to England. They were a gift for King Edward VII's special day when he became king, called his coronation. The wooden box holding the candies even had a picture of the king's crown on it.

Years later, in 1947, more fruit marmalade candies were sent as a wedding gift. This time, they went to Princess Elizabeth and Duke Philip when they got married. Princess Elizabeth later became Queen Elizabeth II. A box of Finlandia candies will also be sent to Charles III when he officially becomes king.

A New Name for a Classic Candy

For a long time, the candy was called "Kruunajaismarmeladi," which means "coronation marmalade." But in 1948, the name was changed to Finlandia. This new name honored Finland, the country where the candy is made. Even with the new name, the candy boxes still kept a picture of a crown to remember its royal history.

Popular Flavors Today

Since 2008, Finlandia candy has offered many traditional flavors that people love. These include apricot, blackcurrant, lemon, strawberry, and pear. Each candy has a delicious, fruity taste!
