Firooz Bahram High School (which is دبیرستان فیروز بهرام in Persian) is one of the oldest high schools in Tehran, Iran, that is still open today. It's a special place with a long history!
School History
Firooz Bahram High School was built in 1932. It was constructed on land owned by Zoroastrian people, like Ardeshir Kiamanesh. Zoroastrianism is one of the world's oldest religions.
The school got its name from an Iranian Zoroastrian named Firooz Bahram. He sadly passed away in the Mediterranean Sea during World War I. This was a very big war that happened from 1914 to 1918.
The idea for the school was strongly supported by Keikhosrow Shahrokh. He was the Zoroastrian representative in the Majles, which is like Iran's parliament or main law-making body.
Famous People from Firooz Bahram
Many important people have studied or worked at Firooz Bahram High School.
- Seyyed Hossein Nasr attended this school. He later became a famous scholar and the president of Sharif University.
- A former Prime Minister of Iran also went to this school. A Prime Minister is a top leader of a country.
- The Chancellor of Tehran University was another student. A chancellor is the head of a major university.
- Ezatollah Negahban, who is known as Iran's father of Archeology, also studied here. Archeology is the study of human history through digging up old sites and artifacts.
It's interesting to know that Firooz Bahram wasn't the very first Zoroastrian high school in Tehran. That honor goes to Jamshid Jam (جمشيد جم) High School, which was built earlier in 1906.
Kamaloddin Jenab, one of Iran's first scientists in nuclear physics, was also the director of the school for some time. Nuclear physics is a branch of science that studies the tiny parts inside atoms.
Building Design
The school building has a special design that shows the style of the Qajar era in Iran. The Qajar dynasty was a ruling family in Iran from the late 1700s to the early 1900s.
Today, Firooz Bahram High School is considered an important historical place and a cultural treasure in Tehran.
